Vikings left out in the cold despite victory over St. Norbert

GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Lawrence University men’s tennis team beat St. Norbert College 5-4 on Sunday at Western Racquet Club, but a three-way tie means the Vikings will not make the Midwest Conference Tournament.

Lawrence (9-12, 2-1 MWC), St. Norbert (5-12, 2-1) and Carroll University all ended in a three-way tie for first place in the North Division, but St. Norbert and Carroll will play in the four-team conference tournament next Friday.

Since the three teams all went 1-1 against each other, the tiebreaker was individual matches won and Lawrence was the odd man out in that scenario.

The singles players gave Lawrence the win over St. Norbert on Sunday. Lawrence won only one doubles match, Jason Dunn and Max Zlevor at No. 1, but won four of the six singles matches.

Dunn (No. 1), Caleb Ray (No. 3), Cooper Smith (No. 4) and Craig Sherwood (No. 5) all won singles matches for Lawrence.
