Bluejays top Lawrence

CLERMONT, Fla. — The Elmhurst College softball team made the most of its opportunities on Friday to collect a 5-1 nonconference win over Lawrence University.

Elmhurst (10-3) needed only six hits to score five times as Ele Walter had two hits and Bella Masini drove in a pair of runs.

Tiffany Potthast scattered seven hits, struck out one and walked four in going the distance to earn the win. Liz Barthels went the distance for the Vikings (7-4) and allowed just three earned runs while walking one.

Lawrence tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third when Marisa Thackston singled to score Sam Belletini. The Bluejays took the lead right back in the bottom half of the inning on Masini’s two-run single.

Elmhurst added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to help seal the victory.

Lawrence bats pummel Oberlin

CLERMONT, Fla. — The Lawrence University softball team pounded out 15 hits over five innings in a 9-1 nonconference win over Oberlin College on Thursday.

Lawrence, which ran its win streak to five games, had five players collect two hits apiece. Anna Wawiorka, Amanda Jaskolski, Sam Belletini, Taylor Dodson and Marisa Thackston all had two hits for the Vikings (7-3).

Thackston drove in a pair of runs for Lawrence, which had six doubles on the afternoon.

Liz Barthels allowed one run on five hits over five innings to pick up the win. She struck out one and did not walk a batter.

Lawrence took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Belletini doubled and scored on Kori Looker’s double

The Vikings started to pull away from Oberlin (1-10) with three more runs in the third. Jaskolski, Belletini and Thackston all had run-scoring singles in the inning as Lawrence grabbed a 4-0 lead.

The Yeowomen got a run in the top of the fourth, but the Vikings scored twice in the bottom half of the inning to push the lead to 6-1. Marsicek’s run-scoring double scored one run, and Dodson’s infield single plated the other.

Lawrence ended the game on the eight-run rule in the bottom of the fifth with three more runs. Thackston and Jessica Demski had back-to-back run-scoring doubles to push the lead to 8-1, and Wawiorka belted another double to score Demski and end the game.

Lawrence wraps up its spring break trip on Friday with games against Elmhurst College and Colby College.

Jaskolski homers again as Vikings down Colby

CLERMONT, Fla. — Lawrence University star shortstop Amanda Jaskolski blasted her fourth homer of the season to lead the Vikings to a 5-1 nonconference softball victory over Colby College on Thursday.

Jaskolski, the reigning Midwest Conference North Division Player of the Year, went 2-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs. Anna Wawiorka went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, and Taylor Dodson and Marisa Thackston both went 2-for-3 for the Vikings (6-3).

Kara Vance allowed nothing after a first-inning run and went the distance to earn the victory. She allowed six hits, struck out two and walked one.

The Vikings jumped on Colby (3-5) with a pair of runs in the top of the first. Wawiorka tripled to start the game and scored on a passed ball. Savanna Marsicek followed with another triple, and she scored on an error to give Lawrence a 2-0 lead.

The Mules cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the first, and the score stayed that way until the fifth. Jaskolski belted a two-out solo homer in the top half of the fifth to give Lawrence a 3-1 edge.

The Vikings added another run in the sixth on Marisa Thackston’s single, and then tacked on another run in the seventh on Dodson’s run-scoring triple.

Colby only had three runners get into scoring position over the final six innings.

Dodson’s double delivers walk-off win over RIT

CLERMONT, Fla. — Taylor Dodson’s double in the bottom of the eighth inning drove in the winning run as the Lawrence University softball team downed Rochester Institute of Technology 5-4 in a nonconference game on Tuesday.

Anna Wawiorka and Tierney Duffy both went 2-for-3, and Amanda Jaskolski drove in two runs for the Vikings (5-3), who have won three straight. Kara Vance went the distance for Lawrence to pick up the victory.

The game was tied at 4-4 heading to the eighth, and using the international tiebreaker rule, Sam Killian was placed at second for the Tigers (1-6). A ground ball moved Killian to second, but Wawiorka snared a line drive to third for the second out. Vance then got McKenzie Martin to fly out to end the inning.

Jaskolski started at second to begin the bottom half of the eighth, and Dodson ripped the first pitch for a double to plate the winning run.

Lawrence took a 1-0 lead in the second when Dodson walked and later scored on Duffy’s single. RIT took the lead right back with two runs in the top of the third, but Lawrence tied it in the bottom half of the inning. Wawiorka led off with a triple and scored on Jaskolski’s ground ball to tie the game at 2-2.

RIT added two more runs in the fourth, but Lawrence tied it up in the fifth. Marisa Thackston stared the rally with a double and later scored on Wawiorka’s single. Wawiorka later scored on Jaskolski’s two-out single to tie the game at 4-4.

Sierra Valentine went the distance, allowed eight hits and took the loss for the Tigers.

Lawrence tames Terriers

CLERMONT, Fla. — The Lawrence University softball team got a solid pitching performance from Liz Barthels and another homer from Amanda Jaskolski en route to an 8-2 nonconference win over Thomas College on Tuesday.

Barthels allowed only four hits over seven innings while striking out four and walking none to pick up her third win of the season. Jaskolski blasted her third homer, a two-run shot, of the season to power Lawrence (4-3).

Anna Wawiorka, Taylor Dodson and Tierney Duffy all went 2-for-3 and all three players drove in two runs for the Vikings.

Lawrence grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first on Dodson’s two-run double. The Vikings were up 2-1 when Jaskolski smacked a two-run homer in the bottom of the third to give Lawrence a 4-1 edge.

Thomas (0-2) got a run back in the top of the fourth to trim the margin to 4-2, but the Vikings rallied in the bottom half of the inning. Lawrence loaded the bases on two walks and an error, and Duffy followed with a two-run single to push the lead to 6-2.

Lawrence then tacked on two more runs in the sixth on Wawiorka’s two-run single.

Taylor Johnson allowed six hits and seven runs over 5.1 innings and took the loss for the Terriers.

Vikings’ rally ends in walk-off win over D’Youville

CLERMONT, Fla. — The Lawrence University softball team rallied for two runs in the seventh to tie it and two more runs in the eighth to pull out a 5-4 nonconference win over D’Youville College on Monday.

Lawrence (3-3) trailed 3-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh, but singles by Savanna Marsicek and Tierney Duffy had runners at second and third with two outs. An error on Taylor Dodson’s ground ball allowed both runs to score and tie the game at 3-3.

Using the international tiebreaker rule, D’Youville’s Laura Wilkinson was placed at second to the start the eighth inning. The Vikings later cut her down at third on MacKenzie Kehlenbeck’s single. Kehlenbeck then scored on Kallie McHenry’s double and the Spartans (4-4) led 4-3.

Sam Belletini started at second for the Vikings in the bottom half of the eighth, and Kori Looker followed with a double to score her and tie the game at 4-4. After a pair of outs, Tierney Duffy legged out an infield single to score Looker and give the Vikings the win.

Marsicek, Looker and Duffy all went 2-for-4 to lead the Lawrence attack.

Kara Vance tossed 4.2 innings of relief to earn the win. She allowed one run on five hits, struck out one and did not walk a batter. McHenry went the distance, allowing 10 hits while striking out 12 and walking two, and took the loss.

North Central edges Vikings

CLERMONT, Fla. — Kaylee Hayton held the Lawrence University softball team scoreless over the final four innings to lead North Central College to a 5-3 nonconference win on Monday.

Kayla Antle and Keirsten Tinkoff had two hits apiece and Tinkoff drove in three runs to pace the Cardinals, who improved to 7-0.

Tierney Duffy went 2-for-2 to pace the Vikings (2-3). Liz Barthels allowed seven hits in going the distance and took the loss for Lawrence.

Lawrence led 1-0 in the top of the first after Savanna Marsicek singled and later scored on Sam Belletini’s single. The Cardinals struck back for two runs in the bottom of the first.

Lawrence tied it at 2-2 in the top of the second with the rally starting on a misplayed ground ball. After Marisa Thackston reached on an error, she scored after back-to-back singles by Duffy and Anna Wawiorka.

The Cardinals came right back and scored three times in the bottom half of the inning to grab a 5-2 edge. Lawrence trimmed the lead to 5-3 on Amanda Jaskolski’s lead-off homer in the third.

The Vikings had two runners aboard in the fourth and fifth but failed to score.

William Paterson shuts out Vikings

CLERMONT, Fla. — The No. 20 William Paterson University softball team broke open a scoreless game in the third inning and went on to an 8-0 nonconference win over Lawrence University on Saturday.

Kerrin Dys tossed a two-hit shutout for the Pioneers (8-3). She struck out one and did not walk a batter. Kara Vance allowed 10 hits over five innings and took the loss.

Amanda Jaskolski and Kori Looker were the only players with hits for the Vikings (2-2).

Christina Austin, Kristin Gardner and Lachelle Rouse all had two hits for the Pioneers, who scored three runs in the third, three more in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Vikings pounce on Buffalo State

CLERMONT, Fla. — The Lawrence University softball team scored four times in the first inning and rolled to a 9-2 nonconference victory over Buffalo State University on Saturday.

Amanda Jaskolski, Savanna Marsicek and Anna Wawiorka all had two hits to pace Lawrence’s 10-hit attack. Jaskolski had a triple and drove in a pair, and Marsicek doubled and drove in two runs. Wawiorka scored three times and drove in a run.

Liz Barthels went the distance and picked up the win for Lawrence (2-1). She allowed four hits, struck out one and walked one.

Lawrence grabbed a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first with Jaskolski belting a two-run triple and Taylor Dodson adding a run-scoring single. The Vikings pushed the lead to 6-0 with a pair of runs in the third on Marsicek’s two-run double.

The Bengals (2-3) cut the lead to 6-2 with single runs in the fourth and fifth, but Lawrence struck back in its half of the fifth.

The Vikings scored three times in the bottom half of the fifth with some help from the Bengals. Buffalo State issued a pair of walks and committed two errors in the inning to go with Wawiorka’s RBI single as Lawrence grabbed a 9-2 advantage.

Lawrence blanks Framingham State

CLERMONT, Fla. — Two Lawrence University pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout as the Vikings downed Framingham State University 8-0 in a nonconference softball game on Friday.

The game was called after five innings due to the eight-run run.

Liz Barthels and Jessica Demski combined on the shutout for the Vikings (1-1). Barthels allowed three hits in three innings to pick up the win, and Demski allowed one hit over the final two frames.

Savanna Marsicek went 3-for-3, scored three runs and drove in a run for the Vikings. Anna Wawiorka and Amanda Jaskolski both went 2-for-3 for Lawrence, and Jaskolski and Sam Belletini both drove in a pair of runs.

Lawrence scored three times in the first with the help of three singles and a pair of run-scoring ground outs.

The Vikings stretched the lead to 7-0 in the bottom of the second with a flurry of four runs. Lawrence had five hits in the inning, including a lead-off double by Barthels and a two-run double by Jaskolski.

Lawrence put the game out of reach in the fourth when Marsicek singled and later scored on Belletini’s single to make it 8-0.
