Neumeyer, Vinopal power Vikings past MSOE in four sets

OSHKOSH, Wis. — The Lawrence University volleyball team hit .315 over the final two sets Saturday to roll to a 3-1 nonconference victory over MSOE at the UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic.

The Vikings won 25-20, 17-25, 25-18, 25-20 in the match at Kolf Sports Center. Rachael Wuensch was named to the all-tournament team for the Vikings. She had 24 kills and a .237 hitting percentage for the tournament. Wuensch also picked up 10 aces, six digs and a pair of blocks.

Arianna Neumeyer led Lawrence (4-5) with a match-high 13 kills and picked up 20 digs. Claire Vinopal had 10 kills and had no attack errors in 13 attempts for a sizzling .769 hitting percentage.

The Vikings hit .314 in the third set and followed that with a .310 hitting percentage in clinching fourth set.

Lauren Ray led the Vikings with 23 assists, and Sydney Nelson added 15. Cyra Bammer paced Lawrence with 21 digs.

Carroll wins three tight sets to top Vikings

OSHKOSH, Wis. — The Carroll University volleyball team won a trio of tight sets Saturday to edge Lawrence University 3-0 in a nonconference match at the UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic.

Carroll won 28-26, 25-22, 25-22 at Kolf Sports Center.

Karley Wolf had 11 kills, and Amanda Hahn picked up 21 digs to pace the Pioneers.

Rachel Barthel led Lawrence with nine kills, and Rachael Wuensch and Arianna Neumeyer added seven kills apiece.

Lauren Ray and Sydney Nelson had 14 assists apiece, and Cyra Bammer picked up 12 digs for Lawrence.

Big hitters power Vikings past Martin Luther in four sets

OSHKOSH, Wis. — The Lawrence University volleyball team had three players post double-digit kill totals on its way to a 3-1 nonconference victory over Martin Luther College on Friday at the UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic at Kolf Sports Center.

Lawrence won the match 25-23, 26-24, 23-25, 25-19.

Rookie Rachel Barthel led the Vikings with 14 kills and picked up six digs. Liz Arco added 13 kills and had a match-high six blocks. Rachael Wuensch picked up 10 kills and added a match-best three aces.

Lauren Ray paced the Vikings (3-4) with 24 assists, and Sydney Nelson added 19. Cyra Bammer was tops with 18 digs, and Arianna Neumyer picked up 16.

Lawrence posted a .255 hitting percentage for the match and was especially tough in the opening two sets. The Vikings hit .312 in the first set and was at .275 for the second set.

Lawrence plays two more matches Saturday to wrap up play at the Pizza Hut Classic.

Millikin slips past Vikings in straight sets

OSHKOSH, Wis. — The Millikin University volleyball team topped Lawrence University 3-0 in the opening match of the UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic on Friday at Kolf Sports Center.

Millikin won the match 25-17, 25-21, 25-14.

Freshman Rachel Barthel led the Vikings (2-4) with six kills, and Arianna Neumeyer added four kills and seven digs. Lauren Ray picked up a team-best 10 assists for the Vikings, and Cyra Bammer was tops with 11 digs.

Millikin hit .247 for the match, and Erin Syversen posted a match-best 13 kills.

Neumeyer, Wuensch power Lawrence volleyball past Marian

FOND DU LAC, Wis. — Arianna Neumeyer pounded out 16 kills and Rachael Wuensch added 11 to lead the Lawrence University volleyball team to a 3-1 nonconference win over Marian University on Wednesday at Sadoff Gym.

Lawrence (2-3) won by the scores of 20-25, 25-21, 25-13, 28-26.

Neumeyer led the match in kills, and Wuensch picked up her 11 kills in just 22 attempts with one error for a cool .455 hitting percentage.

Lauren Ray and Sydney Nelson split the assists down the middle for the Vikings. Ray picked up 20 and Nelson had 19.

On the defensive end, Cyra Bammer had a match-high 23 digs and Neumeyer added 16. Liz Arco led the Vikings with six blocks, and Wuensch, Arianna Cohen and Colleen Nowlan had three apiece.

Fast Fact: Lawrence is coming off a good start to the season as the men took fourth and the women placed fifth at St. Norbert’s Tom Barry Invitational. Janusiak was third overall for the men, and Schrobilgen placed 12th to pace the women.

Beacons stop Lawrence

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The University of Massachusetts Boston survived a pair of tight sets to post a 3-0 nonconference win over Lawrence University on Saturday at the Captains Classic.

The Beacons won 25-13, 25-21, 25-23 in the match at Christopher Newport University.

Eileen Shi led UMass Boston with 12 kills, and Elizabeth Glavan picked up 21 digs.

Arianna Neumeyer paced Lawrence (1-3) with seven kills, and Rachael Wuensch and Rachel Barthel added six kills apiece. Barthel also was chosen for the all-tournament team.

Sydney Nelson led the Vikings with 14 assists and Lauren Ray added 13. Cyra Bammer paced the Vikings with 15 digs.

Stevenson stops Vikings in straight sets

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Stevenson College hit .269 for the match and played some great defense to pick up a 3-0 nonconference win over Lawrence University on Saturday at the Captains Classic.

Stevenson won the match 25-19, 25-16, 25-17 in the match at Christopher Newport University.

Annika Schwartz had 15 kills, and Deanna Bradbury had 18 digs to pace Stevenson.

Arianna Neumeyer and Rachel Barthel had five kills apiece for the Vikings (1-2). Katie Kumbalek had a match-high 19 digs for Lawrence. Sydney Nelson led Lawrence with 13 assists and Lauren Ray added 11.

Vikings take down UW-Platteville

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Lawrence University volleyball team topped UW-Platteville 3-1 on Friday in a nonconference match at the Captains Classic at Christopher Newport University.

The Vikings won 20-25, 25-15, 25-17, 25-20.

After dropping the first set, Lawrence (1-1) took advantage of nine Platteville hitting errors to take the second set. The Vikings then rolled through sets three and four to pick up the win.

Arianna Neumeyer paced the Vikings with 14 kills, and rookie Rachel chipped in with eight kills and 10 digs.

Sydney Nelson led Lawrence with 15 assists, and Lauren Ray had 14. Cyra Bammer had a team-high 22 digs for the Vikings, and Neumeyer added 13. Neumeyer also picked up three blocks, and Claire Vinopal led the Vikings with four.

Lawrence plays two more matches Saturday to wrap up play in the Captains Classic.

No. 11 Christopher Newport stops Vikings in straight sets

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The 11th-ranked Christopher Newport University volleyball team downed Lawrence University 3-0 in a nonconference match Friday at the Captains Classic.

Christopher Newport picked up the win by scores of 25-14, 25-22, 22-18.

Katie Piper had 11 kills to lead Christopher Newport, which had a .222 hitting percentage for the match.

Arianna Cohen paced Lawrence with eight kills in the season opener. Sydney Nelson had a team-high 12 assists for the Vikings, and Katie Kumbalek picked up 10 digs.
