Roesch named MWC Player of the Week

Lawrence University women’s tennis standout Jenny Roesch has been named the Midwest Conference Player of the Week.

Roesch (Cedarburg, Wis./Grafton), a sophomore, was chosen after posting a perfect 4-0 week to lead Lawrence to to the Midwest Conference North Division title. Roesch went 2-0 at No. 2 singles and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles.

In a 6-3 victory over Ripon College, Roesch won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and teamed with Beth Larson (Maplewood, Minn./Mounds Park) for an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles. Lawrence clinched the division title with a 6-3 victory over St. Norbert, with Roesch posting a 6-2, 6-2 victory in singles and teaming with Larson for an 8-5 win in doubles.

Roesch, who was named the MWC Player of the Week for the first time in her career, improved to 8-6 in singles and 12-3 in doubles on the season.

Lawrence, which won the North Division for the second time in three seasons, takes on Lake Forest College in the MWC Tournament semifinals Friday morning in Rockford, Ill. Grinnell College faces St. Norbert College in the other semifinal and the winners meet for the conference championship in the afternoon.

Lawrence downs St. Norbert; wins MWC North Division title

The Lawrence University women’s tennis team toppled St. Norbert College 6-3 on Friday to win the Midwest Conference North Division title.

Lawrence went 4-0 in North Division play and will be the top seed from the North in the Midwest Conference Tournament later this month. This marks the second time in three seasons that Lawrence has won the North Division. The Vikings also took the title in 2008.

The Vikings won two of the three doubles matches against the Green Knights on Friday and won the top four singles matches.

Vikings double up Ripon; clinch berth in MWC Tournament

The Lawrence University women’s tennis team topped Ripon College 6-3 on Wednesday in a Midwest Conference North Division match at the Lawrence Courts.

With the victory, Lawrence’s seventh consecutive win over the Red Hawks, the Vikings clinched a berth in the four-team Midwest Conference Tournament later this month in Madison, Wis.

Lawrence takes on St. Norbert College on Friday to determine the MWC North Division champion.

Malhotra nets MWC Player of the Week award

Lawrence University women’s tennis standout Gayatri Malhotra has been named the Midwest

Conference Player of the Week.

Malhotra (Litchfield Park, Ariz./Verrado), a freshman, picked up the award after losing a total of just five games in a pair of singles matches against Midwest Conference South Division rivals.

Malhotra opened with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles over Monmouth College’s Joi Henry. She teamed with Kat Valde for an 8-0 victory over Ashley Lawrence at Laura Harrison at No. 3 doubles as part of the Vikings’ 8-1 victory over the Scots.

In an 8-1 victory over Knox College, Malhotra downed Molly Stein 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. She teamed with Valde for an 8-2 victory over Emily Tyl and Aimee Neilan at No. 3 doubles.

On the season, Malhotra improved to 7-5 in singles and 6-5 in doubles.

Lawrence, which leads the North Division with a 2-0 record, faces off against rival Ripon College on Wednesday at the Lawrence Courts. The match begins at 3 p.m.

Vikings roll past Monmouth, Knox

The Lawrence University women’s tennis team rolled to 8-1 victories over Midwest Conference rivals Monmouth College and Knox College on Saturday at the Lawrence Courts.

The Vikings dropped only two games total in the three doubles matches against Monmouth and won five of the six singles matches. Lawrence freshman Martha McDonnell picked up her first collegiate victory with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.

The Vikings (7-4) also swept the doubles matches and won the Nos. 1-5 singles matches against the Prairie Fire.

Vikings roll past Beloit 6-3

BELOIT, Wis. – The Lawrence University women’s tennis team won five of the six singles matches and rolled to a 6-3 Midwest Conference victory Saturday over Beloit College.

The Vikings got great performances at the top of their lineup. Beth Larson was a 6-0, 6-3 winner at No. 1 singles, and Jennifer Roesch posted a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2. Larson and Roesch also teamed for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles.

Titans top Lawrence tennis team

OSHKOSH, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh women’s tennis team topped Lawrence University 6-3 in a nonconference match Thursday at the Kolf Sports Center Complex. Lawrence’s top singles player, Beth Larson, kept her record unblemished on the season and improved to 5-0 in singles and 5-0 at No. 1 doubles with partner Jenny Roesch.

Larson knocks off defending champ and wins Player of the Week honors

Lawrence University women’s tennis star Beth Larson put together a perfect opening week of the season and was chosen as the Midwest Conference Player of the Week.

Larson (Maplewood, Minn./Mounds Park Academy), a junior, also knocked off the Midwest Conference’s defending No. 1 singles champion. Larson was 3-0 on the week at No. 1 singles and teamed with Jenny Roesch to go 3-0 at No. 1 doubles.

Larson capped her week with a 6-0, 7-6 victory over Lake Forest College’s Melika Celebic, who won the conference’s top singles title in 2009. Led by Larson, the Vikings defeated the Foresters 7-2. Larson posted a 6-0, 6-0 win in singles in Lawrence’s 9-0 win over Marian University. She also won 6-0, 6-2 in singles in Lawrence’s 5-4 victory over Edgewood College, the defending Northern Athletics Conference champion.

Lawrence takes on Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes UW-Oshkosh and UW-River Falls later this week.
