Finals Week

Finals week sounds dreadful, doesn’t it? Well, as exhausting and as scary as finals can be, Lawrence offers almost everything that will sail you through the terrible times. If you study and keep up with your homework, assignments and readings, you will be fine. This is coming from a sophomore, so trust me—I know.

When the time comes for finals, you can feel the aroma change around you. The campus gets quieter and you can sense that this is it. This is the end of the term. When you look through the library windows, you can see so many people making themselves comfortable diving into books. The library becomes the hub. Others find different nooks; some people study in the campus center, some in their dorm lounges and some prefer to not share their secret location.

Personally, I have seen a lot of night owls during finals. There are people who stock up on snacks and caffeine but there are others who know that a good night’s sleep can make all the difference. It just depends on your lifestyle. However, one thing that no one should forget is self-care.

This is where Lawrence goes above and beyond. This is my fifth term at Lawrence, and they have exceeded my expectations every time. This place takes better care of me than I do.

During finals week, you will find residence hall staff giving you snacks every night. They will leave granola bars, fruits, crackers, juice packets, and other food out for students to take. Some will even host study sessions and order pizzas. It’s unhealthy but it makes everyone happy!

The library also has a snack bar set up. Some other resources and organizations on campus provide care packages to the students as well! There is also something called canine therapy- when faculty and staff bring their dogs to campus for students to de-stress. So, as you can tell, everybody is here to nurture you through finals!

One of the highlights of finals week is the midnight breakfast. Yes, breakfast at midnight. Every term, there is a breakfast organized by the campus center staff over the weekend before finals. The past two themes were smoothies at midnight and carnival food. It is a lot of fun and almost the entire campus comes to eat in the dining hall.

Well there you have it. Finals week is tough but there are enough things that you can do to make it better. You just have to take care of yourself, spend time doing things that you enjoy, and study. You’ll be golden!
