Vikings drop pair to Ripon

The Ripon College baseball team got a fine pitching performance in the first game of Thursday’s Midwest Conference doubleheader and pulled away late in the second game to record a sweep at Don Hawkins Field.

Ripon won the opener 14-1 and took the nightcap 10-3.

In the first game, Kurt Roeder went the distance and allowed only four hits. He struck out five and walked two.

Nick Whitty went 3-for-3 and drove in six runs to pace Ripon (15-15, 6-4 MWC) in the opener. The Red Hawks collected 15 hits in the contest.

Robert Rashid had two of the four hits for Lawrence (6-23, 2-8).

In the nightcap, Ripon led 3-0 after three innings but the Vikings battled back. Lawrence got a run in the fourth on Alex Brewer’s RBI single, and the Vikings tied it in the sixth on Andy Frelich’s two-run homer.

Bryant Bullock gave Ripon the lead back in the eighth with a two-run homer, and the Red Hawks put the game away with five unearned runs in the ninth.

Bullock, Nate Paul and Taylor Koth all had two hits for Ripon. Phil Wisniewski had a pair of hits for the Vikings.

Freshman pitcher John Revis turned in his finest outing for Lawrence. He allowed only one hit in 4 1/3 innings of relief. He struck out two and walked one.
