Lawrence University track and field standout David Zane has been named the Midwest Conference Track Performer of the Week.
Zane (San Rafael, Calif./Terra Linda), a junior, earned the award after his performance at the Marquette University Twilight Invitational this past Saturday.
Zane finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase behind a Division I runner with a time of 10:10.36. Zane’s time is the third-fastest in the Midwest Conference this season.
It marked the first time in Zane’s career he has won a Midwest Conference Performer of the Week award. It also caps two weeks of fine performances for Zane. He ran a time of 15:56.74 in the 5,000 meters at the Benedictine University Invitational on April 17. That marked the first time in a decade that a Lawrence runner turned in a sub-16-minute performance in the 5,000.
The Vikings return to action on May 1 when they travel to the UW-Oshkosh Invitational.
