Lawrence University cross country star Sam Stevens has been chosen as the Midwest Conference Performer of the Week.
Stevens (Suamico, Wis./Bay Port), a junior, earned the honor after winning the Tom Barry Invitational at St. Norbert College on Sept. 3. Stevens covered the four-mile course at Colburn Park in 21:02.7 and won by 13 seconds. This was the first individual title for Stevens, who earned All-Midwest Conference honors in each of his first two seasons with the Vikings.
Stevens led Lawrence to a third-place finish in the team standings at the Barry Invitational.
This marks the second consecutive season Lawrence has had a men’s cross country runner win the conference Performer of the Week honor. Curran Carlile (Portland, Ore./Central Catholic) won the honor twice in 2010.
Lawrence returns to action when it travels to the UW-Whitewater Invitational on Sept. 17.
