APPLETON, Wis. — Lawrence University men’s soccer player Max Loebl scored in the final six minutes Saturday, but UW-Platteville held on for a 2-1 nonconference victory over the Vikings on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.

Lawrence (2-4-0) trailed 2-0 when Loebl but the lead in half with his second goal of the season with just 5:07 remaining. Loebl scored off a pass from Keanan Wilson, who was set up on the play on a nice feed from Mike Deremo.

The Vikings had the ball several more times deep on the Platteville end of the field but didn’t get another good scoring chance in the final minutes.

Platteville (6-1-0) goalkeeper Will Seehawer picked up the shutout without making a save. The Pioneers had a 13-4 edge in shots. Joe Krivit made six saves for the Vikings.

Platteville took a 1-0 lead on a beautifully executed corner kick in the 20th minute. Nick Hoklas’ corner found the head of Logan Rinderknecht, who scored at 19:13.

The score was still 1-0 early in the second half when a Platteville crossing pass got past several players to the back post. The Vikings were attempting to clear it away, but it deflected into the net for an own goal, and Platteville led 2-0 at 50:41.
