Endsley grabs MWC Player of the Week honors

APPLETON, Wis. — Lawrence University women’s tennis player Lilly Endsley has been named the Midwest Conference Player of the Week after a compiling a perfect record.

Endsley (Rockford, Ill./Guilford) won the honor after posting a 6-0 mark on the week as Lawrence swept three Midwest Conference road matches.

In winning three matches at No. 2 singles, Endsley dropped just 10 games total. She posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory in Lawrence’s 7-2 win at Knox College on Oct. 10. Endsley then won 6-3, 6-2 in Lawrence’s 5-4 win at Monmouth College on Oct. 10. She capped the weekend with a 6-1, 6-3 win at Illinois College as the Vikings won 7-2 on Oct. 11.

Playing No. 1 doubles with Katie Frankel, Endsley also went 3-0 with an 8-1 win at Knox, an 8-2 win at Monmouth and an 8-3 win at Illinois College.

Endsley improved to 9-8 in singles and 10-7 in doubles on the season. This is the first time Endsley has won the conference Player of the Week honor. Endsley is the first player honored by the league since Gayatri Malhotra won the award on Sept. 12, 2012.

Lawrence completed the Midwest Conference season with a 5-5 record and finished sixth in the league.

Lawrence, which is 10-8 overall, wraps up the fall season this weekend when it plays in the Midwest Conference Championships at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wis.

Lawrence pummels Lady Blues

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. — The Lawrence University women’s tennis team swept the doubles action on Sunday and rolled to a 7-2 Midwest Conference win over Illinois College.

The Vikings (10-8, 5-5 MWC) completed Midwest Conference play this weekend with three consecutive victories. In addition to defeating Illinois College, Lawrence topped Knox and Monmouth on Saturday.

The Vikings began the match against the Lady Blues (2-11, 1-9) by winning all three doubles contests. Katie Frankel and Lilly Endsley were 8-3 winners at No. 1, Lindsay Holsen and Elana Lambert won 8-6 at No. 2 and Annie Harincar and Katie Nottberg won 8-1 at No. 3.

Lawrence wrapped up the match with four singles victories as Endsley (No. 2), Holsen (No. 3), Harincar (No. 5) and El Goblirsch (No. 6) all won in straight sets.

Loebl’s goal gives Vikings victory over Beloit

BELOIT, Wis. — Max Loebl’s goal in the 25th minute was the only score and lifted the Lawrence University men’s soccer team to a 1-0 Midwest Conference victory over Beloit College on Saturday at Strong Stadium.

Loebl scored his second goal of the season at the 24:56 mark to put the Vikings (2-9-1, 1-3-0 MWC) on top.

That lead stood up as Lawrence goalkeeper Joe Krivit made seven saves to notch his third shutout of the season. Jere Bauer stopped eight shots for the Bucs (3-7-1, 2-3-0).

Lawrence posted a 13-12 edge in shots for the match.

Bucs shut out Lawrence

BELOIT, Wis. — The Beloit College women’s soccer team scored a pair of second-half goals to seal a 3-0 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University on Saturday at Strong Stadium.

Genesis Dade scored in the 37th minute to put the Bucs (5-5-0, 2-2-0 MWC), and Jordyn Murch then scored less than two minutes into the second half for a 2-0 edge. Alexis Miller added a goal in the 74th minute to seal the win for Beloit.

Haylee Irwin recorded five saves for the shutout. Patsy Kealey made six saves for Lawrence (6-7-0, 1-4-0) before giving way to Carolyn Ford for the final 18-plus minutes.

Harincar’s win lifts Vikings past Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill. — Annie Harincar’s comeback victory at No. 5 singles lifted the Lawrence University women’s tennis team to a 5-4 Midwest Conference victory at Monmouth College on Saturday afternoon.

Harincar defeated Katy Tolsky 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 and gave Lawrence (9-8, 4-5 MWC) the victory.

Lawrence started the match in the hole after dropping two of the three doubles matches. The Vikings’ lone win was an 8-2 victory by Katie Frankel and Lilly Endsley at No. 1 doubles.

The Vikings then stormed back in the singles matches as Frankel won at No. 1, Endsley followed with a victory at No. 2 and Lindsay Holsen won in straight set at No. 3 to put Lawrence up 4-2.

The Scots (3-10, 3-6) then won at Nos. 4 and 6 to tie the match at 4-4 before Harnicar rallied to win her match.

Lawrence rolls past Prairie Fire

GALESBURG, Ill. — The Lawrence University women’s tennis team rolled to an 8-1 Midwest Conference victory over Knox College on Saturday.

The Vikings (8-8, 3-5 MWC) started the morning with a sweep of the doubles competition. Lawrence dropped just seven games in taking all three matches.

The Vikings were a super-tiebreaker away from sweeping the singles matches as well. Katie Frankel at No. 1, Lilly Endsley at No. 3, Lindsay Holsen at No. 3 and El Goblirsch at No. 6 all won in straight sets, and Annie Harincar won a super-tiebreaker of her own for a victory at No. 5.

Both Endsley and Goblirsch lost just one game in impressive victories.

Vikings sweep past Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill. — The Lawrence University volleyball team hit .253 and piled up eight aces on its way to a 3-0 Midwest Conference sweep of Monmouth College on Saturday.

Lawrence won by the scores of 25-18, 25-23, 25-15. The Vikings (6-16, 5-2 MWC) have now won four straight.

Arianna Neumeyer paced the Vikings with 10 kills and 15 digs. Rachael Wuensch added seven kills without an error in 13 attacks.

Lauren Ray and Sydney Nelson combined for 27 assists, as Ray picked up 16 and Nelson added 11.

The Vikings combined for seven total blocks, with Megan Conley with four block assists and Arianna Cohen adding three.

Lawrence women win title, men third at Gene Davis Invitational

APPLETON, Wis. — The Lawrence University women’s cross country team put five runners in the top 10 and rolled to the title at the Gene Davis Invitational on Saturday.

Clare Bruning led the Lawrence women by finishing second on the 6,000-meter course at Reid Golf Course in 24:01. Erin Schrobilgen then took fourth for the Vikings in 24:27, and Liz Landes grabbed fifth in 24:37.

Margaret Huck took sixth for Lawrence in 24:39, and Sierra Polzin rounded out the scoring by taking 10th in 24:52.

Lawrence won the title with 27 points, and Concordia of Wisconsin took second with 56. Concordia’s Ashley Scheele was the winner in 23:56.

The Lawrence men grabbed third place with 81 points, and the Wisconsin Track Club won the team title with 19.

Max Edwards paced Lawrence by taking seventh, completing the 8,000-meter course in 26:33. Rounding out the scoring for the Vikings were: Josh Janusiak (10th, 26:46), Ben Schaefer (13th, 27:03), Cam Davies (22nd, 27:25) and Jordan Atkins (29th, 27:52).

Dylan Souder of the Wisconsin Track Club was the winner in 25:57.

Vikings edge Knox in five sets

GALESBURG, Ill. — The Lawrence University volleyball team topped Knox College 3-2 in a Midwest Conference match on Friday night to hand the Prairie Fire its first league loss.

Lawrence won the match 25-18, 21-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-12.

After the teams split the first four sets, Lawrence (5-16, 4-2 MWC) had just one hitting error in the final set and hit .235 for the set. Knox (9-12, 4-1) had six attack errors in the final set.

 

Lawrence’s balanced attack was paced by rookie Arianna Neumeyer, who picked up 16 kills. Arianna Cohen and Megan Conley had nine kills apiece, and Liz Arco, Cyra Bammer and Rachael Wuensch added six kills apiece.

Setters Lauren Ray and Sydney Nelson combined for 43 assists. Ray had 27 and Nelson added 16.

Kyleigh Guthals led Knox with 15 kills, and Casey Stachelski had 44 assists.

Green Knights edge Lawrence in dual match at North Shore

MENASHA, Wis. — The St. Norbert College golf team downed Lawrence University 307-325 in a dual match on Thursday at North Shore Golf Club.

St. Norbert’s Joe Scherer carded a 74 to lead all scorers on the par-70 layout. The top score for Lawrence was Nigel Schuster, who fired a 76.

Rounding out the scoring for the Vikings were Ryan Eardley (81), Ryan Clark (83), Austin Frank (85), Nathan Ley (87) and Lane King (90).
