Vikings double up Edgewood

The Lawrence University men’s soccer team scored four times in the first 27 minutes and went on to a 4-2 nonconference victory over Edgewood College on Wednesday.

Karl Mayer got the scoring started for Lawrence with his first career goal in the sixth minute. Jared Padway paced the Lawrence offense with a goal and two assists. Paul Senner and Bennett Pang also scored for the Vikings, who have won three consecutive games.

Steven Solomon picked up the victory after holding the Eagles scoreless in the first half.

Solomon picks up MWC weekly soccer award

Lawrence University men’s soccer standout Steven Solomon has been named the Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

A freshman goalkeeper, Solomon (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) won the award after an outstanding two games in net for the Vikings. For the two games last week, Solomon posted a 2-0 record with a shutout, a .933 save percentage and a 0.50 goals against average

In Lawrence’s 1-0 victory over the Milwaukee School of Engineering, Solomon made five saves to record the shutout. In a 2-1 victory over Beloit College to open Midwest Conference play, Solomon made nine saves.

Solomon is 3-1 on the season with two shutouts. He has a .880 save percentage and a 0.75 goals against average.

Lawrence returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Edgewood College.

Blegen’s goal lifts Lawrence past Bucs

Cameron Blegen picked a good time for his first career goal.

Blegen, a junior midfielder, scored at the 76:02 mark to snap a 1-1 tie and give the Lawrence University men’s soccer team a 2-1 Midwest Conference win Saturday over Beloit College. Bennett Pang and Stephen Exarhos picked up assists on Blegen’s game-winning goal. Freshman Charlie Mann also scored his first career goal for the Vikings.

Steven Solomon made nine saves to earn the victory.

Caprile’s goal lifts Vikings to victory over MSOE

David Caprile scored his first career goal and that lifted the Lawrence University men’s soccer team to a 1-0 nonconference victory over the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Wednesday.

Caprile’s rocket from 20 yards out beat MSOE goalkeeper Jon Cerny for the only goal of the match. Lawrence freshman goalkeeper Steven Solomon picked up his second career shutout and finished with five saves. Solomon got a big assist from defender Hashim Allah-Morad, who headed away a ball headed for the back of the net late in the contest.

The Vikings, who improved to 2-2 on the season, had a 12-9 edge in shots.

Vikings open season with shutout win at Farmington

FARMINGTON, Maine – The Lawrence University men’s soccer team opened its season with a 2-0 shutout at Maine-Farmington on Wednesday.

Senior Bennett Pang picked up a goal and an assist and senior Paul Senner also scored for the Vikings. Pang got Lawrence on the board with a score just 30 seconds before halftime. Freshman Charlie Mann assisted on Pang’s goal.

Senner made it 2-0 in the 81st minute off an assist from Pang.

Freshman goalkeeper Steven Solomon picked up a shutout in his first career match. He made four saves.
