Lawrence hammers Blueboys

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. — The Lawrence University men’s tennis team rolled to an 8-1 Midwest Conference victory over Illinois College on Saturday.

The Vikings (9-7, 3-1 MWC) easily swept the three doubles matches and then took the Nos. 2-6 singles matches.

David Jumes and Brian DeCorte at No. 1, Bill Schuman-Kline and David Brooker at No. 2 and Adam Busch and Izaya Turenne at No. 3 were all winners. Busch and Turenne were 8-0 winners.

DeCorte at No. 2, Mitch Kasprzyk at No. 3, Busch at No. 4, Ethan Perushek at No. 5 and Ben Tomhave at No. 6 all won in straight sets in singles. Busch posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory in his match.

Singles success leads Scots over Lawrence

GALESBURG, Ill. — The Monmouth College men’s tennis team won five of the six singles matches Saturday and rode that to a 6-3 Midwest Conference win over Lawrence University.

Lawrence’s lone victory in singles came from No. 1 player David Jumes, who rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Landon Walker.

Jumes also teamed with Brian DeCorte for an 8-2 victory over Walker and Marco Franco at No. 1 doubles. Lawrence (8-7, 2-1 MWC) led 2-1 after the doubles competition as Bill Schuman-Kline and David Brooker topped Saxon Day and Paulo Pliego 8-3 at No. 2.

The key matches in singles went to the Scots as Dylan Wong topped DeCorte 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2, and Pliego downed Adam Busch 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8) at No. 5.

Perfect week earns DeCorte MWC Player of the Week honors

APPLETON, Wis. — Lawrence University men’s tennis standout Brian DeCorte posted a perfect week and earned Midwest Conference Player of the Week honors.

DeCorte (Southampton, Pa./William Tennet), a senior, was chosen after he posted a 2-0 record at No. 2 singles and a 2-0 record at No. 1 doubles. During the week, Lawrence picked up an 8-1 Midwest Conference victory over St. Norbert College and pitched a 9-0 nonconference shutout against Marian University.

In the win over St. Norbert, DeCorte teamed with David Jumes (Appleton, Wis./Xavier) for an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles. DeCorte then routed Alex Vandenberg 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

In the shutout at Marian, DeCorte and Jumes were 8-2 winners in doubles, and DeCorte routed Danny Roe 6-0, 6-0 in singles.

DeCorte, who was chosen as the MWC Player of the Week for the first time, improved to 10-3 in singles and 7-4 in doubles.

The Vikings return to action this weekend with matches at Monmouth College, Illinois College and Knox College.

Lawrence blanks Sabres

FOND DU LAC, Wis. — The Lawrence University men’s tennis team rolled to a 9-0 drubbing of Marian University on Friday at Centre Court.

The Vikings (8-6) got off to a dominating start by dropping just two games total in the three doubles matches. Bill Schuman-Kline and David Brooker at No. 2 and Adam Busch and Izaya Turenne at No. 3 both won 8-0.

David Jumes at No. 1, Brian DeCorte at No. 2 and Turenne at No. 6 all won their singles matches 6-0, 6-0. The Vikings lost just 10 games total in the six singles matches. Schuman-Kline (No. 3), Mitch Kasprzyk (No. 4) and Busch (No. 5) also were singles winners for the Vikings.

Vikings roll past St. Norbert

APPLETON, Wis. — The Lawrence University men’s tennis rolled to an 8-1 Midwest Conference victory over St. Norbert College on Wednesday night at Fox Cities Racquet Club.

The Vikings (7-6, 2-0 MWC) swept the doubles matches and took five of the six singles contests.

In the doubles, Lawrence’s No. 1 team of David Jumes and Brian DeCorte and the No. 3 squad of Adam Busch and Izaya Turenne both won 8-4. The No. 2 match went to a tiebreaker with Bill Schuman-Kline and David Brooker taking the tiebreaker 9-7.

In the singles matches, Jumes at No. 1, DeCorte at No. 2, Schuman-Kline at No. 3, Busch at No. 5 and Ethan Perushek at No. 6 all won in straight sets. Jumes, DeCorte and Busch lost a total of just two games in each of their singles matches.

This is Lawrence’s fourth win in the last five seasons against the Green Knights (3-4, 0-1).

UW-La Crosse shuts out Vikings

LA CROSSE, Wis. — The UW-La Crosse men’s tennis team downed Lawrence University 9-0 in a nonconference match on Friday.

Lawrence’s best shot at taking a match from the Eagles (8-7) came at No. 1 singles. Lawrence’s David Jumes took the opening set 6-4, but Tony Mirasola won the second set 6-1 and then took the super tiebreaker 10-7.

Lawrence is now 6-6 on the season.

Carthage shuts out Vikings

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Carthage College men’s tennis team blanked Lawrence University 9-0 in a nonconference match on Tuesday.

The match marked the first loss of the season at No. 1 singles for Lawrence’s David Jumes. He is now 10-1 in 2016.

Vikings rout Western Connecticut State

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Lawrence University men’s tennis team rolled to a 9-0 nonconference rout of Western Connecticut State on Monday.

Lawrence (6-4) did not drop a set en route to the shutout of the Colonials (0-1).

The Vikings shook up the doubles lineup as Bill Schuman-Kline and David Brooker played No. 1 and Adam Busch and Izaya Turenne played No. 2. Both of those teams won 8-4, and the No. 3 duo of Ben Tomhave and Kieran Laursen were 8-1 winners.

Lawrence swept the singles matches as David Jumes, Brian DeCorte, Schuman-Kline, Busch, Ethan Perushek and Mitch Kasprzyk all won in straight sets.

Pipers topple Lawrence

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Hamline University men’s tennis team swept the doubles action and used that to post a 6-3 nonconference win over Lawrence University on Saturday.

Hamline (6-5) won three tight doubles matches and won the Nos. 4-6 singles contests.

Lawrence (5-4) took the top three singles matches as No. 1 player David Jumes posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Brian DeCoret split the first two sets at No. 2 but took the super-tiebreaker 10-8 and the match. Bill Schuman-Kline rolled to a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 3.

Jumes, DeCorte win but Knights top Lawrence

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Lawrence University men’s tennis team dropped a 7-2 nonconference decision to Calvin College on Friday.

David Jumes and Brian DeCorte picked up the two victories for the Vikings (5-3). Jumes remained undefeated on the season with a 6-4, 7-6 victory over Matt Buesing at No. 1 singles. DeCorte was a 7-6, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) winner of Matt VanWinkle at No. 2 singles.

Calvin (4-2) swept the doubles and the Nos. 3-6 singles matches.

Lawrence returns to action on Saturday when it takes on Hamline University.
