Pioneers shut out Vikings

GRINNELL, Iowa — The Grinnell College women’s soccer team picked up a goal in each half for a 2-0 Midwest Conference win over Lawrence University on Saturday.

Carolyn Silverman scored at 22:46, and the Pioneers carried that one-goal edge into halftime. Grinnell sealed the win with a goal from Francesca Varias at 64:15.

Grinnell got the shutout as Katy Oldach made four saves. Dani Glass stopped 11 shots for the Vikings.

Platteville shuts out Vikings

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The UW-Platteville women’s soccer team picked up an early goal and went on to a 2-0 nonconference win over Lawrence University on Sunday at Pioneer Stadium.

Yamalix Jaramillo scored in the 12th minute for Platteville (7-6-0), and Bianca Mahoney added a second goal in the 61st minute for the Pioneers.

Two Platteville goalkeepers combined to make three saves for the shutout. Dani Glass stopped 14 shots for the Vikings (4-7-2).

Berkley’s goal gives Lawrence win over Scots

MONMOUTH, Ill. — Ryan Berkley’s goal in the 80th minute gave the Lawrence University women’s soccer team a 1-0 Midwest Conference victory over Monmouth College on Saturday.

Berkley, a freshman forward, scored at the 79:34 mark to break the scoreless tie. It was Berkley’s third goal of the season.

Goalkeeper Dani Glass made six saves to pick up the shutout for Lawrence (4-6-2, 2-1-2 MWC). Nicole Neagle stopped three shots for the Scots (3-10-2, 2-4-0).

Pair of penalty kicks lifts Edgewood past Vikings

APPLETON, Wis. — The Edgewood College women’s soccer team used a pair of penalty kicks to carve out a 2-0 nonconference win over Lawrence University on Wednesday at Whiting Field West.

Edgewood (9-3-1) broke a scoreless tie when Jenna Mineau scored on a penalty kick at 34:54 after an Eagles player was fouled in the box.

Lawrence nearly tied the match on Keli Muchowski’s shot in the 74th minute, but the ball was stopped by Tori Fortney’s diving save. Less than a minute later, the Vikings were whistled for another foul in the box, and Mineau converted another penalty kick for a 2-0 lead.

Fortney stopped seven shots for the Eagles, and Dani Glass made four saves for Lawrence (3-6-2).

Glass corrals MWC Defensive Player of the Week honors

APPLETON, Wis. — Lawrence University women’s soccer standout Dani Glass has been named the Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Glass (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield), a senior goalkeeper, picked up the award after earning her third shutout of the season. Glass grabbed her third shutout of the season and earned a hard-fought tie in Lawrence’s other match of the week.

Glass made five saves in Lawrence’s 2-0 victory over Knox College on Sunday and stopped seven shots in a 2-2 double-overtime with Illinois College on Saturday. For the week, Glass recorded an .857 save percentage and 0.90 goals against average in earning the first conference Defensive Player of the Week award of her career.

On the season, Glass improved to an .828 save percentage and 1.53 GAA.

Lawrence returns to action on Wednesday when the Vikings take on Edgewood College in a nonconference match.

Muchowski scores twice as Lawrence douses Prairie Fire

APPLETON, Wis. — Keli Muchowski scored a pair of goals Sunday to lead the Lawrence University women’s soccer team to a 2-0 Midwest Conference victory over Knox College at Whiting Field West.

Muchowski got the Vikings (3-5-2, 1-1-2 MWC) on the board at the 35:51 mark when she took a pass from Casey Merkle and beat Knox goalkeeper Theresa Birzer. Lawrence held that one-goal advantage until the 77th minute when Muchowski got a pass from Melissa Rooney and found the back of the net again for a 2-0 edge.

Lawrence piled up 20 shots, compared to seven for Knox (3-8-0, 0-4-0).

Lawrence goalkeeper Dani Glass picked up the shutout with five saves. Birzer stopped 10 shots for the Prairie Fire.

Lawrence, Lady Blues battle to 2-2 overtime tie

APPLETON, Wis. — The Lawrence University women’s soccer team battled to a 2-2 double-overtime tie with Illinois College on Saturday in a Midwest Conference match at Whiting Field West.

Lawrence (2-5-2, 0-1-2 MWC) scored a pair of first-half goals, and Illinois College (6-3-1, 0-1-1) scored the game-tying goal in the 67th minute.

The Vikings got on the board when Keli Muchowski scored off a pass from Ryan Berkley at the 10:47 mark. The Lady Blues tied the match on Ashely Sholmire’s goal at 18:40.

Lawrence grabbed the lead back on Liza Girsova’s goal at 32:43. Sarah Zaccarine picked up an assist on Girsova’s goal. Illinois College tied the game on Bianca Savarese’s goal at 66:42.

Dani Glass picked up seven saves for the Vikings, and Cat Solberg stopped three shots for Illinois College.

Lake Forest scores in final minutes to edge Vikings

APPLETON, Wis. — The Lawrence University women’s soccer team took undefeated Lake Forest College down to the wire, but the Foresters scored with just 4:02 remaining to pull out a 2-1 Midwest Conference victory at Whiting Field West.

Lake Forest (10-0-0, 3-0-0 MWC) took the early lead on Holly Lesperance’s goal in the 28th minute, but led only 1-0 despite dominating the first half.

Lawrence (2-5-1, 0-1-1) pulled to even when Keli Muchowski scored off assists from Lucy Brown and Genna Matt at 48:54.

The score stayed that way until Michelle Greeneway scored at 85:58 to put the Foresters back on top.

Lake Forest had a 22-5 edge in shots, and Dani Glass made 13 saves for the Vikings. Rachel Tenuta stopped three shots for Lake Forest.

Vikings battle to scoreless tie with Carroll

WAUKESHA, Wis. — The Lawrence University women’s soccer battled Carroll University to a 0-0 double-overtime tie in a Midwest Conference match on Saturday at Schneider Stadium.

Lawrence (2-4-1, 0-0-1 MWC) was limited to four shots, and the Pioneers (1-4-1, 0-0-1) had just nine. Dani Glass stopped seven shots for the Vikings, and Erica Patterson made three saves for Carroll.

Merkle scores four as Vikings rout Maranatha Baptist

APPLETON, Wis. — Casey Merkle scored four goals to lead the Lawrence University women’s soccer team to an 8-1 nonconference rout of Maranatha Baptist University on Tuesday at Whiting Field West.

Merkle, a sophomore midfielder, tallied the third-highest goal total in a match for the Vikings. The record for goals in a match is six by Libby Mullin in 1986.

Eva Tourangeau, a freshman, scored the first two goals of her career, and Keli Muchowski and Ryan Berkley added one goal apiece for the Vikings (2-4-0).

Lawrence owned a 34-2 edge in shots, and Dani Glass made one save for the Vikings.

Maranatha (1-3-1) led 1-0 after Anna Dahl scored off a free kick in the eighth minute. Muchowski tied it for the Vikings off a pass from Anne Leung at the 13:10 mark.

Merkle scored her first goal of the afternoon at 16:23 off  a pass from Genna Matt to give the Vikings the lead for good. Merkle made it 3-1 off a pass from Muchowski at 30:14 and the rout was on.

Ryan Berkley was taken down in the box and scored on a penalty kick to give Lawrence a 4-1 edge at 33:52. Merkle completed the hat trick at 38:52 with an unassisted goal to put the Vikings up 5-1.

Tourangeau scored her first career goal at 63:24 for a 6-1 lead, and Merkle picked up her fourth just 3:04 later for a 7-1 edge. Tourangeau completed the scoring with her second goal of the match at 69:31.

The hat trick was the first for a Lawrence player since Muchowski did it against Knox College on Sept. 22, 2013. The four goals was the most for a Lawrence player since Mallory Koula scored four times against Beloit College on Oct. 15, 2011.
