The collection of materials documenting the history of Main Hall has been processed and the finding aid is available here.

A digital collection of this physical collection will be available soon on the website as well. Many thanks to Katherine Elchert who worked on this collection during her Spring term 2008 internship. Her work on this collection included arranging hundreds (no exaggeration) of photographs in chronological order.

This collection is part of the Lawrence University Buildings Collection that is currently being processed.

George shares memories about his time in the Navy and being stationed at Lawrence, and the activities that he participated in while at Lawrence.

Main Hall Photographs, 1850s – 1960s and the Lawrence University Crest

The exhibit features photographs documenting the history of Main Hall from its creation in1853 to the present. The Lawrence University Crest exhibit provides a look at the history of the crest and its many uses over the years, including being displayed on Commencement programs, yearbooks, and Lawrence promotional materials.

The exhibits were done by Archives intern Katherine Elchert.

The interview was done during Reunion Weekend 2007. Sue shares stories about the sport of curling at Lawrence, the formal balls and dances, and Winter Weekend. She also tells of viewing the deceased Senator Joseph McCarthy as he lay in state at a nearby church.

The Namesake of the Richard A. Harrison Symposium for the Humanities and Social Sciences

The exhibit located in the case on the first floor of the library provides a look at Richard Harrison, dean of the faculty and professor of history at Lawrence University from 1992-1997. Harrison was one of the founders of the Student Humanities and Social Sciences Symposium that first began in 1996, After Harrison’s death in 1997, the symposium was renamed the Richard A. Harrison Symposium for the Humanities and Social Sciences in 1998. The symposium showcases student research and writing and will be held this year on Saturday, May 17.

The Lucia Briggs collection has been processed and the finding aid is now available here.

Lucia R. Briggs was president of Milwaukee-Downer College from 1921-1951 and received an honorary degree from Lawrence in 1926. The collection contains correspondence, photographs, and articles about and written by Briggs.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Conservatory of Music Artist Series. The program was started in 1908 by William Harper, Dean of the Conservatory at the time. The series consists of outside performers of national and international acclaim coming to campus and giving concerts.

Lawrence International Cabaret and Dinner

This exhibit on display in the cases on the first floor of the library features photographs, programs and newspaper articles from the International Cabaret and Dinner of years past. The first Lawrence International Dinner and Cabaret took place in 1976 and was hosted by Lawrence faculty and staff. Since then the dinner and Cabaret have been popular annual traditions and are now hosted by the students of International Club.
