Lawrence University Voter Guide

Registering to vote in Appleton

If you live in Lawrence University housing, your voting district will depend on your residency.

  1. If you live in:
    • Brokaw: 115 S. Drew St.
    • Colman: 212 S. Durkee St.
    • Hiett: 403 E. College Ave
    • Kohler: 718 E. Alton St.
    • Ormsby: 401 E. College Ave
    • Plantz: 600 E. College Ave
    • Sage: 723 E. Boldt Way
    • Trever: 815 E. South St.
    • Quads:
      • 206 S. Lawe St.
      • 281 S. Lawe St.
      • 711 E. Alton St.
      • 733 E. Alton St.
      • 712 E. Boldt Way
        Your polling place is Saint Joseph Parish Center – 404 W. Lawrence St.
  2. If you live in:
    • Big Exec: 300 S. Meade St.
    • Small Exec: 813 E. John St.
    • Quads: 203 N. Union St.
      Your polling place is Memorial Presbyterian Church | 803 E. College Ave
  3. If you live in Fox Commons, your polling place is First United Methodist Church | 325 E. Franklin St.
  • The address of your residential building with your room number should be listed on all voter forms as your residential address.
  • Your SPC# @ 711 E. Boldt Way must be listed as the mailing address on your voter registration application.

You must also have a valid Student Voter ID. This ID, plus the LU Certified Housing List, can serve as your Proof of Residence.

If you do not live in Lawrence University housing, you can use a current Wisconsin Driver’s License or ID Card with your Appleton address listed. This can be used as Proof of Residence.

Student Voter ID

A valid student voter ID must have:

  • Name
  • Photo
  • Issue date
  • Expiration Date (must be within 2 years of the date of issuance)
  • Student signature

To obtain your Student Voter ID, visit the Center of Community Engagement & Social Change page on the LU website, where you can print your ID card.

Proof of Residence Documents

All Proof of Residence Documents must have your full name and current address listed. This document is required when registering to vote.

Common POR documents for LU students include:

  • Student ID + Housing List
  • WI Driver’s License
  • Utility Bill
  • Residential Lease

Submitting Your Voter Registration

There are four ways to submit your voter registration.

  1. Online
    You must have a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License or Identification Card to complete your registration online. Visit myvote.wi.gov by Oct. 16 to register.
  2. By mail
    Fill out the Wisconsin Voter Registration Application (EL-I3I – found at myvote.wi.gov). Mail this and a copy of your Proof of Residence document to the City Clerk’s Office. All mailed Voter Registrations must be postmarked by Oct. 16.
  3. Clerk’s Office
    Bring your Proof of Residence to the City Clerk’s Office to register until Nov. 1. The Clerk’s Office is located at 100 N. Richmond St. on the 6th floor. Office hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
  4. Polling Place on Election Day
    Bring your Proof of Residence to your Polling Place on Election Day on Nov. 5. Polling Places will be open 7 a.m.-8 p.m.

Voting Information

All voters must present a valid Photo ID in order to receive a ballot. Common Photo IDs for LU students include:

  • Student Voter ID (see above)
  • WI Driver’s License/ID Card
  • US Passport

Voting Options

  1. Absentee by mail
    To vote absentee by mail, you must already be registered to vote. You can request an absentee ballot be mailed to you at myvote.wi.gov. You will need to provide your mailing address (SPC) and a Photo ID.
  2. In-person absentee
    In-person absentee voting will take place at the dates and times below at City Hall (100 N. Appleton St. 6th floor). You may register to vote and absentee vote during these times.
    > Oct. 22-23 | 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
    > Oct. 24 | 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
    > Oct. 25 | 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
    > Oct. 28 | 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
    > Oct. 29 | 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
    > Oct. 30 | 7 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
    > Oct. 31 | 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
    > Nov. 1 | 8 a.m.-Noon
  3. On Election Day
    Visit your polling place on Nov. 5 between the hours of 7 a.m.-8 p.m. You may register to vote and cast your ballot at this time.
