Terrell Myers Jr., returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown against Illinois College this past Saturday.

APPLETON, Wis. — Lawrence University football rookie Terrell Myers Jr., was named the Midwest Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after a huge kickoff return this past Saturday.

Myers (Marietta, Ga./Marietta) returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown in Lawrence’s league opener with Illinois College on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.

The 100-yard return ties the record for the longest kick return in a Midwest Conference game and ranks as the second-longest in Lawrence history. The longest in school history is a 102-yard return by College Football Hall of Famer Scott Reppert vs. UW-Oshkosh in 1982.

Myers, who was returning a kickoff for just the third time in his young career, didn’t start the return. The ball was caught at the goal line by Dan Rothbauer, and the ball was handed to Myers just a few yards up the field. Myers cut left past one defender and then back right, stepped out of a tackle and went untouched the rest of the way.

It’s the first kickoff return for a touchdown by the Vikings since Alic Riedel did it in the 2015 season opener.

Myers, who is a starting cornerback for the Vikings, is now averaging 47.7 yards per kickoff return. Myers also has six tackles and three pass breakups this season.

Lawrence returns to action Saturday against Beloit College in the Banta Bowl. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
