A memorial gathering will be held Friday, May 16 in Warch Campus Center to celebrate the amazing life of Professor Minoo Adenwalla, a revered member of the government faculty who passed away January 5, 2025, at age 97. The Lawrence community is invited to attend in person or join remotely via a web link. The memorial is planned for 11:30 a.m., with refreshments to follow. An RSVP is not required. The web link can be found here.
Professor Adenwalla joined the Lawrence faculty in 1959. He taught full-time for 43 years before retiring in 2002. He then continued to teach in retirement for another 21 years, finally stepping away from the classroom in 2023. In all, that’s 64 incredible years of teaching, spanning eight different decades. He taught courses on Indian politics and nationalism, constitutional law, civil liberties, and the Supreme Court, among others. He regularly taught First-Year Studies (previously Freshman Studies) and was among the Lawrence faculty who helped launch the London Centre program in the early 1970s. And he mentored generations of Lawrentians along the way, many of them long after they’d graduated.
As President Carter said at the time of his death: “His legacy of hard work, wisdom, and inspiration will forever be cherished in our community.”
The family has encouraged memorial gifts to the Minoo Adenwalla Professorship in the Social Sciences at Lawrence University. A giving form can be found here.
