Construction Notice for Memorial Chapel

The accessibility ramp at Memorial Chapel is being replaced this fall with a start date of Monday, September 25 and projected completion date of Monday, November 27. These dates are weather dependent and are subject to change.

The contractor is aware of event-sensitive dates and will work closely with us. There will be a temporary ramp installed so there will no disruption in access to the building.

Please be aware of your surroundings while in the area and do not enter the construction space. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact Katherine.lehman@lawrence.edu or ext. 6893

Meet the Grants Team Open House

The Department of Corporate, Foundation, and Sponsored Research Support (the grants team) is pleased to invite you to work with us on your proposal ideas for external grant funding. We are here to help turn your ideas for new initiatives, research, artistry, and community projects into fundable grant proposals. We can help you identify potential donors, interpret proposal guidelines, develop your application narrative, create an accurate budget, identify sources of institutional cost share, advise on grantsmanship, provide supporting documentation, and assist with submission.

Reminders: Working with Us

Please note that all grant applications where Lawrence is the fiscal agent must be approved via the grants team prior to submission. We request a minimum of 30 days’ notice in advance of the proposal deadline and at least 60 days’ notice for government proposals. Please reach out to us as soon as you start thinking about a grant application. We are eager to hear about your proposal ideas and set up a time to meet!

Grants Open House | Thursday, October 5

Come meet the grants team and enjoy light refreshments and pastries on Thursday, October 5 from 10 a.m.-Noon on the first floor of Sampson House. We would be delighted to meet you, help you put faces to names, and hear about your ideas in a relaxed atmosphere.

Office Hours with President Carter

President Laurie A. Carter is offering office hours to students throughout the 2023-24 academic year.

Dr. Kenny E. Yarbrough Office Hours

This Fall Term, Dr. Kenny E. Yarbrough, Vice President for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Anti-Racism and Support Services (the IDEAS Division) will be hosting three office hour opportunities for students. During these office hours, we invite you to come have a causal conversation and discuss your experience at Lawrence. The goal of these office hours is to learn more about what we can do to support our diverse student body.

These office hours will be hosted at the Diversity & Intercultural Center.

  • Wednesday, September 20 | 3-5 p.m.
  • Thursday, October 12 | 10 a.m.-Noon
  • Tuesday, November 7 | 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Campus Construction Updates

The lower roof at 1025 E South River St is being replaced and repurposed into an outdoor gathering space. The main roof and HVAC units will be replaced this fall.

The Sage Hall exterior wall has been repaired.

The lofted beds have been taken down from all the Quads’ corner rooms.

The Kohler Hall bathroom floors have been re-graded for better drainage.

Window cleaning has begun on most Academic Buildings.

We appreciate your flexibility and understanding during the power shut down on Monday, July 31. Our team and a contractor perform inspections cleaning and testing of the Campus electrical systems annually to be proactive and reduce the chances of power failures.

Campus Construction Updates

  • Sage Hall bathroom remodels are moving along.
  • The new Quad 1 fire system is installed. The bathroom remodel is underway and the new flooring in the common space is being installed.
  • The Banta Bowl Team Complex has the floor slab down and patio pillars installed.
  • New windows are being installed in 738, 741, and 742 E Boldt Way.
  • Small Exec has a new exterior stairwell and concrete repairs.
  • Colman Hall’s upper roof is being replaced after long fought battles with leaks.
  • Several parking lots around Campus received seal coating and re-striping.
  • The tennis courts are resurfaced. Up next – logos!

Silent Bike Auction – August 1, 2023

  • No bids accepted after 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1
  • Winners will be notified by Wednesday, August 2
  • All bikes must be picked up by Thursday, August 3, no later than 3 p.m.
  • Payment due on the day of pick up in exact cash or check made out to Lawrence University.
  • All unclaimed bikes will be awarded to the next highest bidder.
  • All bikes are sold “as is.”

Important Campus Construction Updates!

  • Starting on July 10, Durkee St. along the east side of Colman Hall will be closed by the City of Appleton for construction. There will be access to the Colman Hall parking lot from Lawrence St. behind the YMCA.
  • The long-vacant house at 128 N. Union was razed due to structural concerns. The demolition took place on June 19. There are no plans in place for the property beyond it being greenspace. A master planning process for all properties owned by Lawrence is currently under way.
  • Drew Street Pedestrian Bridge will be closed July 5– 12 for resurfacing.
  • The wood floors in the Esch Hurvis event room in Warch Campus Center will be resurfaced July 12– 15. The room will be closed during these dates.
  • Resurfacing of the tennis courts begins July 6; please note that they will be closed for the duration of resurfacing.
  • Memorial Chapel has exterior, interior and stained glass window restoration underway.
  • Whiting Track and Field is looking fabulous with the installation of a track surface and sod!
  • The Esch Hurvis Center for Spiritual & Religious Life has received all new windows.
  • Small Exec is seeing exterior concrete repairs.
  • Tuckpointing at the Quads is currently taking place.
