Together at last–the Writing Lab and the Library
For the rest of the term, a Writing Lab tutor will be at the first table on the library’s main floor from 8-10 p.m. on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights. Stop in for comprehensive assistance with the form and content of your paper by talking to a tutor and a librarian.
Research advice from the Washington Post: friend a librarian!
From the Campus Overload blog in early April, but still a good idea.
Music Librarian Cloned!
As part of the Mudd Library’s never-ending quest to provide better service, we are pleased to announce the successful cloning of Music Librarian, Antoinette Powell.
Antoinette 1
Antoinette 2
When asked about this development, Pete Gilbert, University Librarian, noted, “We regularly get requests to have Antoinette attend this meeting or do that class or process this huge stack of electronic reserves — all at the same time. Now we’ll be able to meet those requests. We’re also looking forward to improved communication within the Music Library department.”
Noted horn player Keith Powell was unavailable for comment.

Ok. If I Have To. I Guess.
Bloggers sometimes get a bad rap (‘But what do you DO?”) Finally an opportunity has come along which may get people off your back.
Tourism Queensland is looking to hire a caretaker for the Great Barrier Reef , a six-month job that pays US$100,000. But there’s a catch. You have to be “willing to walk white sandy beaches, sit under palm trees and swim with turtles as they soak up the sun.” You also must “keep a blog and photo diary in exchange for six months rent-free … in a three-bedroom home on Hamilton Island complete with plunge pool, views of the Whitsunday Islands and golf buggy.” Oh, and you get return airfares and travel insurance.
If you “have a communication that is arresting and interesting” and feel able to “go through a genuine recruitment process,” this reef’s for you. But first, read all about The Great Barrier Reef in the Mudd. You never know what kind of a hell-hole it may be.
Digital Collection Featured on OCLC Web Site
One of the Llibrary’s digital image collections, “Art of the Poster,” has been selected as one of four featured “Collection of Collections” for October by CONTENTdm. Lawrence’s collection includes more than 160 digital images of historic posters dating from 1890 to 1918. Designed by artists well-known for the work in other media, these posters helped bridge the gap between “high art” and popular visual culture.
We’re Never Using Cell Phones Again
Just like you, we love multi-function appliances. If you have bored kids, or if you are amazed by unexplainable science, try this at home.
Shakey, Sergei and Shirley
Members of the unlikely trio of William Shakespeare, Sergei Prokofiev and Shirley Temple are celebrating a birth anniversary today. Of course the Mudd has the first two, but did you know we have a recording of “On the good ship Lollypop?”
Oh, Darling, You REALLY Shouldn’t Have
Should you find yourself in Widnes, England today, and if you have forgotten to buy a token of affection for your sugar-pie, you are in luck. You can take your honey-bunch to a lecture on decontamination after an anthrax attack. Say it with antimicrobial pesticides.
The Mudd’s got you covered, anthrax-wise.
