Come together for Welcome Arch reveal today; President’s Welcome on Tuesday

The Welcome Arch, a gorgeous landmark that will serve as a visible entryway to the Lawrence campus, is ready for its debut.

The campus community is invited to join in celebration as we reveal the arch for the first time — the Welcome Arch Reveal is today from 4 to 4:30 p.m. at the corner of College Avenue and Drew Street.

Next week, all students, staff, and faculty are also encouraged to greet the Class of 2026 at the arch. The Welcome Arch Ribbon Cutting and President’s Welcome is Tuesday, Sept. 6 from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. We will again meet at the Welcome Arch at the corner of College Avenue and Drew Street where the Class of 2026 will be the first to process through the arch as they launch their Lawrence journeys. Following this new tradition, we will formally celebrate these new students with our annual President’s Welcome from the steps of Main Hall.

First-year students will be moving in on Monday, followed by a full week of orientation. Find details here.

LU Thrift Store open in Colman Hall

The LU Thrift Store is open and will remain open through the academic year in its new location in Colman Hall.

You can find the store in Colman 110 (to the left of the main entrance).

Everything is 100% free to students. It will be open every day during the academic term from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. You can donate clothes or items to the LU Thrift Store year round, however, the donation bins will be located in dormitory lobbies only during Spring Term.

This year the Thrift Store team will start monthly repair workshops where you can bring your ripped shirts, torn coats, etc. and Thrift Store employees will help you mend your clothes.

Philanthropy Engagement Center is Hiring!

PEC students represent Lawrence in increasing engagement with alumni, stewarding gifts to the university, raising funds for the university/Lawrence Fund, and help facilitate student philanthropy events on campus.  PEC students reach out to alumni to update contact information, share Lawrence news, build relationships, and solicit gifts.  PEC students act as advocates to assist in creating a culture of philanthropy and gratitude in the Lawrence community.  This is an excellent resume building position on campus that offers networking opportunities, flexible hours, and monetary bonuses.  Apply on Handshake!

Meet our new faculty

You are cordially invited to attend a Meet and Greet for new faculty on August 30 from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. in the Wriston Art Center Lobby.

Guests can also move to the amphitheater outside if weather permits. Appetizers and (adult) beverages will be served.

See more information here on the three new tenure-track faculty.

Please don’t miss this opportunity to welcome your new colleagues to campus.

Offices on the move

As detailed in President Laurie Carter’s message to campus earlier this week, a number of offices on campus are on the move, all part of continued efforts to ensure that all campus services and experiences are easily accessible for our students.

Several student-focused offices are moving closer to the center of campus. Brokaw Central, which includes the Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Accounts, and Cashier, is moving into Chapman Hall; the Center for Community Engagement and Social Change is moving to the Warch Campus Center; and Residential Education will move to Raymond House. As a result of these moves, a number of additional offices are relocating, including Development and Alumni & Constituent Relations, which will reside in Brokaw Hall. The Office of the President and the Office of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion will relocate to Wilson House, and Sampson House will be fully dedicated to academic affairs and faculty, housing the Office of the Provost and providing space for other faculty needs.

Office of Communications to return to Alumni and Development Division

As we anticipate the change in leadership in Communications with Megan Scott’s upcoming departure, the decision has been made to return Communications to the Alumni and Development division as of Sept. 1, reports Cal Husmann, Senior Vice President for Alumni and Development.

As shared previously, Kelly Landis will serve as interim associate vice president for communications, leading the Communications team and continuing her good work overseeing the brand elevation component of the strategic initiatives. Communications will continue to support the marketing and communications needs of the entire university.

Communications will report directly to Husmann until a new vice president is hired. The VP will then oversee the Alumni, Development, and Communications divisions.

“It’s expected that the joining of our three teams in Brokaw Hall under a new vice president will create greater synergy within our division,” Husmann said.
