London Centre Classes Going Remote

Over the course of its 50 years, the Lawrence University London Centre has never been afraid to adapt to meet new challenges. And, that hasn’t changed with Coronavirus.

When Covid-19 forced the closure of the London Centre in Spring Term 2020, and again for the upcoming Fall Term, an idea was born out of the crisis. If students could not come to the London Centre, then the London Centre would come to the students.

This Fall Term 2020, the London Centre will be offering remote, synchronous learning to ALL Lawrence University students.

Lawrence University London Centre Celebrates 50 Years

On July 6, 1970, the first group of Lawrence University students began classes at the newly opened London Centre at the Arden Hotel in the Earls Court neighborhood of London. Although the London Centre has changed location several times over the years, it has continued to accept students each year for the past five decades and remains one of the most popular study abroad options for Lawrence University students today.

We look forward to sharing more about the Lawrence University London Centre over the upcoming academic year as we celebrate 50 years in 2021-2022!

You can read more about the London Centre’s first days on the Off-Campus Programs Office’s new blog – Study Ablog: Stories from and about Lawrence University’s international and domestic off-campus programs.

LU London Centre Virtual May Programme

Join the FUN – Explore British Culture

Greetings from across the pond! Spring 2020 at the Lawrence University London Centre (LULC) looks quite different without a cohort of Lawrence students living and learning with us, and we miss you all as much as you miss being here! And, that is why we want to invite you to connect with us this May with some fun activities and live discussions!

All are welcome! Whether you are an LULC alumnus, planned to study at the London Centre this spring, are looking forward to studying here in the future, or are even just interested in learning more about the London Centre or British culture in general, join us as we greet friends old and new and celebrate all things British! Discussions will be conducted via Zoom.

Book Club – Film Club – Pub Quizzes

Whether you want to learn more about British culture or just connect – or reconnect – with fellow London Centre friends, take a look at what is happening this month:

  • BOOK CLUB – Read the book This is Going to Hurt – Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor by Adam Kay, then join in our group discussion May 30. More information here.
  • FILM CLUB – We will be discussing three different British films – one each week. View the movie at your leisure and then join us on Saturdays for a group chat about that week’s featured film. Movies this month are Pride, directed by Matthew Warchus, Suffragette, directed by Sarah Gavron, and The History Boys, directed by Nicholas Hytner. More information and dates can be found here.
  • PUB QUIZZES – We may not be able to hop down to the local pub, but we can still take part in our traditional pub quizzes – via Zoom! In May, we will be hosting two virtual pub quizzes on Sundays, so get your family or a team of friends together and test you trivia knowledge on all things London and British! The winner will get the chance to win a $15 Amazon gift voucher! Pre-registration is required. More information and registration details can be found here.

For more information and how to connect, go to our London Centre webpage.
