2024 Lunar New Year Celebration

Please join Lawrence University for the 2024 Lunar New Year Celebration on Saturday, February 3, at 6:30 p.m. at the Warch Campus Center’s Esch Hurvis Room.

The event will include cultural presentations, musical performances, and a Lion Dance, followed by a cultural expo and dinner in the Somerset Room.

The Lawrence letterhead shown here should be used for all departments, offices and programs. The only exceptions are Athletics, Office of the President, Seeley G. Mudd Library and Lawrence’s subsidiaries, which have their own format. These exceptions utilize their own logo and contact information, if applicable.

Contact the Office of Communications to have official university-approved letterhead printed. MS Word templates of the following letterhead formats are available for download below. These are to be used when the letter will remain electronic.

LUgge

LUgge is inspired by a Danish and Norwegian word, Hygge (pronounced “hoo-ga”), which describes a feeling of coziness and contentment. It is associated with enjoying the simple things in life, such as spending time with one’s family and friends, relaxing in comfortable surroundings, and indulging in small pleasures like good food and drink. 

Instead of shying away from the winter, why not celebrate the unique beauty and fun activities the season offers? Here are some events that let you truly embrace the season.

CCE Winter Olympics
Feb. 12-17

The CCE Winter Service Olympics is a new winter event aimed at helping Lawrence students participate in volunteer-related and community engagement activities while competing in friendly, purpose-driven events throughout the week. Students can compete in teams (up to 10 students per team) and earn points through participation in daily activities and events, and the three winning teams will be crowned as CCE Olympic champions.

About Dr. Benjamin

Dr. Ruha Benjamin is the Alexander Stewart 1886 Professor of African American studies at Princeton University, where she specializes in the interdisciplinary study of science, medicine, and technology with a focus on the relationship between innovation and social inequity. and founder of the Ida B. Wells JUST Data Lab. She also authored four books. Dr. Benjamin writes, teaches, and speaks widely about the relationship between knowledge and power, race and citizenship, and health and justice.

Winter Carnival is a part of the Lawrence tradition “LUgge,” which captures the essence of what it means to be a Lawrentian.

Mary Quade is the author of two poetry collections, Guide to Native Beasts and Local Extinctions, and the essay collection Zoo World, winner of the 2022 The Journal Non/Fiction Prize.

Originally from Wisconsin, she’s a graduate of the University of Chicago and the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop. She’s received an Oregon Literary Fellowship and four Ohio Art Council Individual Excellence Awards for both poetry and creative nonfiction. Since 2002, she has lived in northeast Ohio on the last few acres of a former dairy farm with her husband, Chris Harris. She is a professor of English at Hiram College in Ohio.

Lawrence University Logo

The official university logo is used in all business correspondence and collateral. For example, it is used in the Letterhead, Policy Documentation, Business Cards, Email Signatures, etc. 

The three logo formats include Primary, Horizontal, and Condensed. The Primary logo should be used in most, if not all, instances, except when the Horizontal or Condensed versions better fit the allotted space.
