A new chapter for Pa Lee Moua

Dear Lawrence Community-

I am writing to share news about an upcoming staff transition in the Diversity Center and the Student Life Division. As some of you may already be aware, Pa Lee Moua will be leaving her role as Associate Dean of Students for Diversity in late summer. Today I write to share this news and to thank her for the authenticity and dedication she has brought with her every time she has set foot on campus.

After nearly 10 years at Lawrence University, the time has come for a new chapter in her professional life. In the fall, Pa Lee will join the Appleton Area School District as the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer. In this position, she will work to evaluate, examine, and change inequitable practices and procedures to ensure an inclusive learning environment for all students in the school district. Pa Lee will also provide comprehensive training and culturally responsive practices for all staff members. Additionally, she will serve as an administrator, advisor, bridge builder, strategic leader and community partner.

As many have experienced firsthand, Pa Lee has been a strong supporter of the Lawrence community. During her tenure Pa Lee has not only led the Diversity Center and related programming, but also spent numerous years as co-chair of the community-wide Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, served as Lawrence’s Posse liaison, participated for multiple terms on the President’s Committee on Diversity Affairs, and provided guidance and support to many Lawrentians.

In the coming weeks, we will begin a search for a position that will continue to lead the Diversity Center, enhance our work of becoming a more inclusive and equitable Lawrence, and to champion students during their time on campus.

Please join me in congratulating Pa Lee on her new role and thanking her for her dedication to the Lawrence Community!

Warm regards,

Curt

Parking Lottery

Due to a scheduled power outage for maintenance purposes, the Fall Term student parking lottery will run on Tuesday, August 7th instead of Monday afternoon.  To be eligible to enter the parking lottery you must register your vehicle and have no more than one university parking ticket from the previous term.

Registering your vehicle and applying for the lottery is a two-step process.  To register your vehicle log into your Voyager account and go to the student services tab.  Click on the vehicle registration and then click on the ‘Register your Vehicle’ link.

Once you have registered your vehicle a registration number is assigned to your vehicle. You will receive an e-mail letting you know your registration has been processed and to log into your Voyager account to apply for the lottery by clicking on the box “Participate in Lottery” from your vehicle registration page.

New Trash and Recycling Bins on Campus

You may have noticed the addition of the new trash and recycling receptacles around campus. These bins were purchased as part of a sustainability initiative to create a uniform look for trash and recycling disposal on campus to reduce confusion and contamination. The results of a pilot program in Youngchild Hall from Term II of the 2017-18 school year informed us that installing these bins reduced the amount of recyclable material in the trash from 26% before the pilot to 7% after the pilot.

Since we will be replacing the many small bins in each building with these larger receptacles it may take some adjustment to find the correct bin locations in each building. Your patience is appreciated as we work to make this change on campus. If you have any questions or would like to make a location suggestion in a specific building or area, please reach out to Kelsey McCormick at kelsey.m.mccormick@lawrence.edu.
