As we approach Ramadan

Ramadan is an important time of fasting, reflection and prayer for the Muslim community.  Lawrence will support the efforts of those in our community who are celebrating this special time and nourishing their practices.

Iftars at Sabin House will be hosted as a breaking of the fast, by invitation or accompaniment of an invited guest.  Additionally, Grab&Go food will be made available beginning Tuesday, May 15th for those who wish to plan ahead to break their fast.

We ask the respect of the community in not partaking in the offered Grab&Go food unless you are fasting during this time.

Assist your Muslim friends in support of their fasting and enhance your own interfaith vocabulary and understanding throughout Ramadan, which ends around June 14th.

Additional details are available via our Facebook page at LU Spirit Space

A new chapter for Paris Wicker

Dear Lawrence Community-

I am writing to share news about an upcoming staff transition in the Student Life Division.    As some of you may already be aware, Paris Wicker will be leaving her role as Associate Dean of Students for Student Transitions, Support, and Persistence in late summer.

After nearly 15 years at Lawrence University as student and staff member, Paris has determined the time has come for a new endeavor. In the fall, Paris will return to graduate school to pursue a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis at the University of Wisconsin- Madison.  Paris shares that ‘This was a difficult and bittersweet decision to make, and while I prepare to leave with mixed emotions, I truly believe this new opportunity will provide the pedigree and research experience necessary for a successful and life-long career in higher education as a scholar-practitioner.’

As many of you have experienced firsthand, Paris has been a significant member of the Lawrence community.  Beginning in her time with the Admissions Office, and while serving numerous terms on the President’s Committee on Diversity Affairs, leading the CORE program, Senior Class programs, and providing guidance and support to many Lawrentians, you know that she has been a tremendous asset to Lawrence.

In the coming months we will create time to celebrate Paris and thank her for her invaluable commitment to the Lawrence community, but today I write to share this news, and to thank her for the passion, dedication, and sincerity she has brought with her every time she has set foot on campus.

While we won’t ever be able to replicate all that Paris brought to her role in Student Life we will soon begin a search for a position that will continue to support students during their time on campus.

Please join me in congratulating Paris on her new opportunities and thanking her for her dedication and great work!

Warm regards,

Curt
