On Tuesday, January 17th, the penthouse for the new freight elevators is being hoisted on to the roof of Warch Campus Center. Due to having a large crane on E. Boldt Way, there will be barricades in place and people supervising for foot traffic safety. However, please be aware and cautious of your surroundings at all times while in the area. Inside Warch, there will be areas and a stairwell caution-taped off for safety. Please do not enter these areas. Please note that the freight elevators will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, the 16th and 17th, and the link/hallway between Sage Hall and Warch will also be closed on Tuesday, the 17th.

LU Fleet Vehicle Rental Policies and Procedures
Please note: going forward all Lawrence University Vehicle Rental Policies and Procedures will be strictly adhered to. If you utilize the Lawrence vehicle rental program, please take time to read the policies in the link provided. Some important highlights:
- Must be an LU authorized driver
- Requests must be submitted no later than 4:00pm, two full business days in advance. Example: If you need a vehicle at noon on Monday, submit the vehicle reservation form by 4:00pm on the preceding Wednesday.
- “No shows” – a $40 fee when groups or individuals fail to pick up their vehicle as requested.
- Late Cancellations – a $25 fee will be charged when cancelling after 4:00 pm, less than two
full business days’ prior to the scheduled departure time. This fee would be waived if
adverse weather conditions cause trip cancellation - Given the limited number of available Fleet vehicles and the expense of rental vehicles, employees are encouraged to use their personal vehicles for short University (non-student) business trips.

Safety Tips for Devices with Lithium-Ion Batteries
In this #FDNYSmart video, Captain Michael Kozo shares important safety tips that will help raise awareness of the safe ways to charge, store, and dispose of rechargeable and lithium-ion batteries or the devices powered by them.
FDNYSmart Safety Tips for Devices with Lithium-Ion Batteries
Lithium-Ion batteries are used in various devices. These batteries are commonly used in cell phones, laptops, tablets, electric cars, and scooters. Lithium-ion batteries store a large amount of energy and can pose a threat if not treated properly. Like any product, a small number of these batteries are defective. They can overheat, catch fire, or explode.
Be #FDNYSmart if using any devices powered by lithium-ion batteries:
- When purchasing devices, be sure that the equipment has the Underwriters Laboratories Mark. The UL mark shows that the product has been safety tested.
- Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for charging and storage.
- Do not charge a device under your pillow, on your bed, or on a couch.
- Always use the manufacturer’s cord and power adapter made specifically for the device.
- Keep batteries/devices at room temperature. Do not place in direct sunlight.
- Store batteries away from anything flammable.
- If a battery overheats or you notice an odor, change in shape/color, leaking, or odd noises from a device discontinue use immediately. If safe to do so, move the device away from anything that can catch fire and call 9-1-1.
Battery Disposal:
- Putting lithium-ion batteries in the trash or recycling at home is illegal.
- Recycle batteries by taking them to a battery recycling location or visiting nyc.gov/batteries for disposal instructions is always the best option.
- Individually bag batteries or tape ends before disposing of them.
