Friday Lunches Live – Starting September 15th

Meant to complement the Fourth Friday topic centered lunch, this invite is less formal and with no set agenda or topic. Bring your own lunch or snack on something from the Center for Spiritual and Religious Life kitchen such as PB&J or Grilled Cheese, and have a casual lunch with your peers that is separate from student involvement. It’s a ‘make your own experience’ at the Center for SRL, Fridays at noon when classes are in session. Open to staff and faculty.

Fourth Friday Soup and Salad Resumes – September 22nd

The Fourth Friday Soup and Salad for staff and faculty is returning this academic year. Please join us at noon at the Center for Spiritual and Religious Life (SRL) on the fourth Friday of the month while classes are in session, to discuss a topic for consideration which will help you consider your own outlook both on and off campus. Take a moment to connect with the people you work with both directly and indirectly, and see the staff and faculty you may have been missing.

Soup and Salad will be provided by the Center for SRL.

Fourth Friday Lunches for the fall term will be held as follows:
September 22nd, October 27th, and November 17th (3rd Friday due to break)

In Memoriam: Joseph Hopfensperger ’52

Dear Lawrence Family,

I wish to share with you the news that Joseph Allen Hopfensperger ‘52 passed away on July 12.  Joe was a long-time contributor to Lawrence and to the Appleton community. In his many years of connection with Lawrence, Joe served as director of industrial placement, director of the radio station, professor of theatre and drama, administrative assistant to the president, resident director of Björklunden, honorary degree recipient, convocation lecturer and more. Joe’s obituary can be found here—it shares more details about his extraordinary life, which has so enriched our collective life.

Over the more than 70 years of Joe’s connection with Lawrence, many have arrived and scattered to places across the globe. Yet having touched, our lives are linked together. Lawrence University is committed to sharing our losses and celebrating our connections in many ways. Funeral information for those who are in the area can be found here.

With deep gratitude for the life of Joseph Allen Hopfensperger,
Linda

Spring Term Intersections – Buddhist Practice

Intersections are an opportunity to explore the spaces where our spiritual lives and work/study/activities intersect.  As part of this ongoing intersection, a Buddhist practice series is available for the spring term. This series will explore a variety of methods including sitting and walking meditation, prostrations, chanting, discussion and study. The explorations are open to all regardless of background.  Participants attend a progression of sessions, each building upon the last session. Because of the progressive nature of the series, participants are expected to attend all sessions.

RSVP is requested. Contact Matty Wegehaupt at x7181 or at matthew.wegehaupt@lawrence.edu.
