Student Life Announcement: Department Changes

We are pleased to announce that we have realigned our organizational structure in several offices to better position our talented staff to meet the needs of the student body and the university. We have outlined the changes below.

Department Update:

Campus Life has restructured into two new offices; the office are the Office for Residential Education & Housing and the Office of Student Activities.  Both are located on the 4th floor of the Warch Campus Center.  This change allows our staff to more clearly focus their attention and energy to their specific area. (Residential Education and community development in the residential spaces and Student Activities, support for student organizations, student programming and Greek Life)

Personnel Updates:

Dean of Students Office:

Rose Wasielewski, Associate Dean of Students & Dean of the Sophomore Class

Rose’s new office is located in the Dean of Students Office, Raymond House (Corner of Alton St. and Lawe St), Office 203, 2nd Floor. In her new role her primary responsibilities will be programmatic and transitional support for sophomores, transfers, and first generation students as well as advisor to Lambda Sigma Sophomore honor society and the LUCC Student Welfare Committee.

Office of Residential Education and Housing:

Amy Uecke, Associate Dean of Students for Residential Education & Housing

Amy is responsible for fostering the educational and community development programming outside of the classroom setting. In addition, Amy is responsible for the overall supervision of the department’s staff.

Bonny Sucherman, Assistant Director for Residential Education & Hiett Hall Director

In addition to her hall director responsibilities, Bonny now oversees the Community Advisor program, which staffs the residence halls with student leaders who have a specialized focus on promoting community wellness through the fostering of meaningful relationships and creation of inclusive spaces that allow for continued learning and development of the whole self.

Catherine Stern, Assistant Director for Housing

Catherine continues to manage all standard aspects of campus housing and is now a resource for student meal plans.

Shannon Featherstone, Administrative Assistant

Shannon provides administrative support for the department.

Office of Student Activities:

Greg Griffin, Director of Student Activities & the Warch Campus Center

Greg continues to oversee the Warch Campus Center and has added oversight of student activities, greek life and the Viking Room.

Charity Rasmussen, Assistant Director of Student Activities

Charity serves as the primary point person in support of student organizations with trip & event planning, finance management, and roster maintenance.

Nadir Carlson, Student Activities Coordinator

Nadir continues to advise the programming board and supports major student led programming (Blue & White Weekend, Winter Carnival and Zoo Days).

Emily Wilson, Administrative Assistant

Emily will assist students with making purchases, reserving vehicles, and getting access to student organization spaces.  In addition, she will provide administrative support for the department and supervise student workers.

Faculty and Staff Meal Swipes

Starting this fall, faculty and staff can sign up for a block of 25 meals for a low price of $150.00.  The meals (swipes) can be used at any lunch, brunch or dinner in Andrew Commons (Warch Campus Center).  At $6 per meal, the cost is significantly lower than the door price plus you can swipe in one guest.  Better yet, the meals never expire (unless you leave LU employment).  To purchase a block of meals, simply go to the Employee Services tab on Voyager and follow the instructions.

Were you a First Generation student?

“Were you a First Generation student – first in your immediate family to pursue a four-year higher education degree? Would you be interested in being of support to our first generation students throughout their time at Lawrence?

If your answer to both of these questions is yes, contact Rose Wasielewski, Associate Dean of Students and Dean of the Sophomore Class, at rose.wasielewski@lawrence.edu to indicate your interest. Your name will be added to a catalog of faculty and staff who also identify as first gen students. Those who do will get pins and door signs that they can choose to sport for students to easily recognize who their extra supports are.

Thanks for your support of this population, regardless of whether you self-identify in this way. First generation students come to us typically with less knowledge about how the system of higher education works and may need to ask more questions or more clarifying questions – however they may not always feel comfortable doing so because they do not want to appear “behind” in some way to their peers. Your support in taking an extra step to explain a process or procedure further may help ensure everyone is understanding the expectations of them as students or how to navigate a situation.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Rose at rose.wasielewski@lawrence.edu, 920-832-7203, or her office room 203 in Raymond House.”

RLA to CA – Student staff change in Student Life

Over the last year, the Residence Life Advisor position was reconfigured in both hours and compensation so that we can better serve the needs of our students. With an expected 10 hours of work a week and a renewed focus on building personal and interpersonal relationships, the RLA position has now become the CA position, or “Community Advisor”. The first CA cohort has already begun their training over this past spring term, will continue online training through summer, and arrive early in September to round out their in-person training prior to and during Welcome Week 2019. Please update your records, notes, data entry info, and any other references to the RLA or Residence Life Advisor position to CA or Community Advisor. Questions can be referred to Amy Uecke and amy.uecke@lawrence.edu or Rose Wasielewski at rose.wasielewski@lawrence.edu.
