Measles Outbreaks as close as Chicago

Are you protected from Measles? Do you know your immunization status?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed there have been 626 individual cases of measles diagnosed across 22 states in the U.S. since the first of this year.  We are on track to have the highest number of measles cases in the U.S. in 25 years as of April 23rd.

How can measles be prevented?
2 doses of the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine – 2 doses of vaccine is 97% effective.

What if you don’t know your immunization status?
• Ask your doctor or public health clinic
• Check Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR) or check if the state you were vaccinated has an online record similar
• Get another MMR vaccine, there is no harm in being vaccinated again

Where to get an MMR vaccine?
Make an appointment at your doctor’s office, local pharmacy or health department. Students can contact Wellness Services at wellnessservices@lawrence.edu regarding vaccinations.

Denim Day April 24th

The Sexual Assault Crisis Center and Lawrence University would like to encourage all faculty, staff, and students to show support for victim/survivors of sexual assault by wearing teal and/or denim on Wednesday, April 24th for Denim Day.  By wearing denim and teal, participants help to raise awareness for sexual violence prevention, the importance of consent, respect, and they show support for survivors.  The Campus Advocate, Cathy Kaye, will be tabling for Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) in the Warch Campus Center commons, the Library, Science Hall, and the Conservatory

You Make Me Wanna Shout! Anonymous Compliment Board

Want to spread some positivity around campus and anonymously tell someone how great you think they’re doing? Come participate in the You Make Me Wanna Shout event hosted by your Healthy Vikings Intern on Tuesday April 23rd from 8:30am-11am &1pm-4pm in the Wellness Center. You can post an anonymous compliment on our board. Participating also gets you a FREE raffle ticket for a chance to win a gift basket. Come spread some positivity and give a shout out to someone who deserves it!

LU On the Move Weekly Winners

Katie Seidel, Tiera Heller, and Wendell Leafstedt are the winners of a WELLU string bag for participating last week.

Wilson House promotes On the Move by setting aside two 10-15 minute breaks a day to join together to get up and move! We set the times at 10:30 am and 2:30 pm to walk around the block/campus if weather is good, or share a few fun exercises between floors on bad weather days!

Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Cathy Kaye, the Sexual Assault Crisis Center Campus Advocate, will be tabling throughout the month of April for Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). 

The purpose of SAAM is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and educate communities on how to prevent it.  There will be opportunities to learn about advocacy resources and ways to show your support for victim/survivors of sexual violence through decorating jeans, adding “I believe” stickers to a teal ribbon poster, and taking a FREE stress balloon. 

Look for Cathy tabling in the Warch Campus Center commons, the library, Science Hall, and the Conservatory.

Stress Management

Join your Healthy Viking Intern in Warch Campus Center on Thursday April 11th from 1:15-2:15pm to learn about different ways to cope with stress. There will be FREE water bead stress balls in a variety of colors! Stopping by also provides you with a raffle ticket to enter for a chance to win one of three Healthy Vikings Gift Baskets! So come take an approach to better help and find your balance!
