Join us at the Community Engagement Fair this Friday!

Join us on Friday, September 17th for our Annual Community Engagement Fair! We’ve invited nearly two dozen of our community partners to campus to showcase their very good work in the Fox Cities.

Come and chat with representatives from some of our oldest and closest partners to discover how you might engage in service during your time at Lawrence.
In addition to tables and activities hosted by our partners, there will be carnival style games, food trucks, live music, and a chance to win a $50 gift from Amazon! The first 300 Lawrentians to register at the event will also receive a coupon for a free fruit pop from Fox Pop!

Festivities start at 5:30pm at the Quad. If it is raining-we will have the fair set up in the Esch Hurvis Room (2nd floor in Warch Campus Center)

See you there!

Personal Health Assessment (PHA) Registration is Now Open

What is a PHA?

The Personal Health Assessment is a tool that highlights how our lifestyle choices directly impact overall health. Two scores are provided:

  • Your Lifestyle Rating is based on your self-reported daily habits related to nutrition, physical activity, alcohol consumption, stress and depression, and tobacco use.
  • Your Biometric Score is based on tobacco use, Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and blood sugar.

The Personal Health Assessment Report provides personalized feedback, tips to improve your lifestyle habits, and resources for more information.

Who is eligible to participate?

All staff and faculty are welcomed and encouraged to participate in the PHA process. Participation is also encouraged for the following individuals covered under the Lawrence University medical plan: spouses/domestic partners of employees, retirees and spouses/domestic partners of retirees.

Note for Medical Plan Participants

Participation by employees, retirees covered under the medical plan, and spouses/domestic partners covered under the medical plan will provide the discounts to the medical plan premium.  All participants must complete both the biometric screening and the lifestyle questionnaire to receive the premium discount. The questionnaire can be completed through Wellworks portal (ThedaCare’s new platform) while signing up for your biometric screening appointment.  Discounts are provided based upon participation and are not scoring or results based.

Along with their new platform, Wellworks, ThedaCare will be switching to a finger stick blood collection as opposed to an arm draw. This process is less invasive and gives instant results.

If you or your spouse/domestic partner is pregnant or within 6 months post-partum during the time of the assessments, participation by the pregnant/post-partum individual will not be required to obtain the discounts on medical plan premiums. Human Resources must be notified if this is applicable to you or spouse/domestic partner by October 15, 2021.

How do I sign up?

Scheduling directions can be found in the 2021 PHA Instruction Sheet or click here to sign up: www.wellworksforyoulogin.com. The PHA schedule books quickly.  To ensure you receive your preferred appointment time, do not delay in scheduling your appointment.

What is the PHA schedule?

All appointments will be held in the Warch Campus Center – Hurvis & Mead Witter rooms. Appointment time and dates are as followed:

  • Wednesday, October 6th at 6:00am – 10:30am
  • Thursday, October 7th at 6:00am – 10:30am

Staff Connections: Calling All Staff Members

The Staff Connections Committee believes in creating a stronger Lawrence community where staff members have the opportunity to create and develop personal and professional connections across faculty and staff, voice opinions about their community, and work with administration in order to foster the understanding of the needs of staff.

Last year, Staff Connections announced their rebranding in response to your feedback on increasing staff representation in shared governance. As the committee continues to put effort into this rebranding, we are seeking to grow our committee and would like to invite any staff members who are interested in taking part in this rebranding. This is an opportunity for professional development where you can impact the campus greatly. Currently, we are looking for staff representatives for the Lawrence Pandemic Planning Team (LPPT) and Financial Planning Committee (FPC).

If you are interested in being part of this rebranding or being the staff representative on the LPPT or FPC, please reach out to Staff Connections at staff_connection@lawrence.edu or complete the staff member form on our webpage

We look forward to working with you!

Staff Connections: All-Staff Recording + Membership

Thank you to those who attended and submitted their feedback for the Spring All-Staff Meeting on Tuesday! For those who were unable to attend, the Zoom recording is posted on the Staff Connections webpage (login required).

Staff may submit additional questions and concerns via our anonymous form, and we will present them to senior leadership.

As was mentioned during the meeting, Staff Connections is looking for new members as we prepare for our rebranding! In response to your feedback, we want to shift our focus from social event planning toward enhancing communication to increase staff representation in shared governance. We seek to mirror the Faculty Governance Committee in creating a space for staff to more regularly meet and be given the platform to voice their opinions at a higher level.

This is a great opportunity to make your voice heard and make a difference! Interested staff members may volunteer via the form on our webpage or send an email to staff_connection@lawrence.edu. Transitions and Walls

As we prepare to close this term, you are invited to be open with yourself and the community. Reflect on your hopes for yourself and the understanding you encourage from others. Give thanks for memories gained, grieve for experiences lost, or reflect on how those concepts help define each other. Wish meaningful transitions for yourself.

The Library and the Center for Spiritual and Religious Life will all be host to a space that allows you to be open by placing your intentions, wishes, hopes, thanksgiving, fears, confessions, questions, or prayers into the “wall” regardless of background or beliefs. (A remote option will be available through the Spiritual and Religious Life webpage.)

Spiritual and Religious Life understands prayer to be many different things for the members of our community. In all times and traditions, it is a way of being in the moment, being present, and opening your heart, soul, and mind to connection.

At the end of term we will dismantle the wall and collect the prayers. They will be released, unopened, to the universe through burning.

Opportunity Knocks from the Career Center – Student Diversity in Conservation Internship

Lawrence is pleased to announce our first Student Diversity in Conservation Internship cohort for Summer 2021. This internship program has been designed to expose historically underrepresented students in the field of conservation to career opportunities and pathways in this area. Participants will have an opportunity to intern with a conservation organization and explore careers in natural resource conservation based on their unique interests. Students from historically underrepresented groups in the field of conservation are encouraged to apply.

Three students who are accepted into the cohort will receive a stipend of $5,000 each to complete a Summer 2021 internship at one of the host organizations (Northeast Wisconsin Land Trust, Pheasants Forever, Wisconsin Wetlands Association).

For program details and to apply, see Handshake (application deadline is May 31).   If you have questions or would like help with your application materials, please make an appointment here with Jacklyn Fischer, advisor to the HMP and PHN Career Communities.
