New Policy – Employee Pets on Campus

In dedication to the health and well-being of all our faculty and staff, a new policy, the Employee Pets on Campus Policy, is being added to the employee handbook.

The policy provides clarity regarding where and when pets are permitted and the expectations of pet owners, and it helps ensure the comfort of our colleagues.

Under the new policy, only limited exceptions will be made to allow employees to bring their pet dogs into their office or any building on campus.

If you would like to request a policy exception to permit your pet to come to work with you, please review the policy and discuss your request with your supervisor.

If all conditions are met, a Bring Your Dog to Work Authorization and Release form must be submitted before bringing your pet to the office. Forms will be approved in limited circumstances based upon demonstrated need and frequency of requests. Approved releases will be maintained by Human Resources.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your supervisor, VP/Division Head, or Human Resources.

Volunteers needed for mock interview event

The Diversity Center is looking for faculty and staff volunteers to assist in a mock interview event on May 17 from 5-6:30 p.m. If interested, please fill out this form. Your help is appreciated!

If you have any questions, please reach out to either Asher McMullin (asher.b.mcmullin@lawrence.edu) or Lissette Cruz-Jiménez (lissette.cruz-jimenez@lawrence.edu).

The Program for Leadership of Underrepresented Students (PLUS) is looking to host a mock interview event. The first hour will be conducted in Main Hall (interviews) and the other half will be in the Diversity and Intercultural Center for dinner, as well as a follow up conversation with the Career Center.

Faculty and staff volunteers will only need to stay for the first hour, but you are more than welcome to join us for dinner!

U.S. News & World Report Data Collection

We may need your help!

The U. S. News & World Report (USNWR) data collection is expected to open April 25.  The USNWR Rankings are released each fall and are based on three surveys in this collection:  Main, Finance, and Financial Aid.

The Office of Institutional Research (IR) will be working diligently over the next few weeks to collect the data needing to be entered and submitted in these surveys.  If you have been contacted in the past (or have taken over a role contacted in the past) about survey questions pertaining to your area and have not been contacted already, we will be reaching out to you by email as soon as possible for confirmation of rolled-over or updated responses.  The email may come from any member of the IR team (Kristin McKinley, Sarah Dunnagan, or Haley Perkins).

As in previous years, we will likely request a less than two week turn-around time for your answers.  This is necessary because we need time to not only complete the approximate 150-page Main Survey but the institution’s designated administrators also need sufficient time to review and approve the surveys prior to the submission deadline.

Thank you in advance for your expertise and help in this collaborative effort!

Vote for your favorite Off-Campus Program photos!

Stop by the Seeley G. Mudd Library and help us choose the winners of this year’s Off-Campus Programs Photo Contest! Photos submitted to our contest reflect either the “people,” “place,” or “spirit of the experience” of each student’s program. The entire Lawrence community is invited to stop by, enjoy the photos, and vote for their three favorites.

The photo exhibition is located on the first floor of the library and will remain on display until Friday, April 21. We’ll announce the winners of the contest in early May!

Instructions on how to vote are provided at the exhibition. If you have any questions on Off-Campus Programs or wish to explore our programs, go to our Off-Campus Programs page.

Electrical service outage scheduled for July 31

This email was sent April 11, 2023 on behalf of Joseph King, Assistant Vice President of Facilities Operations.

The Lawrence University campus will have its electrical service turned off from 6:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on Monday, July 31, 2023, to allow for necessary and planned work to our electrical infrastructure.

Please add this date to your calendar as a reminder and be sure to power down all computers on your last day in the office before this scheduled disruption in power to help protect the equipment when power is restored.

Nearly all campus buildings will be impacted by this interruption of service. Exceptions are noted below.

For staff, this interruption occurs on a summer additional time-off day (Mondays in mid-June through July). There should be minimal disruption to campus operations. Employees in impacted buildings will not be able to remote-in to their computers during this interruption.

Essential personnel, including but not limited to staff working in facilities, payroll, campus safety, will be required to perform expected responsibilities. Please check with your immediate supervisor regarding expectations.

The below buildings will NOT be affected by this power interruption:

  • 738 E. Boldt Way
  • 741 E. Boldt Way
  • 742 E. Boldt Way
  • 300 S. Meade St.
  • 813 E. John St.
  • 1025 E. South River St.
  • Alexander Gymnasium
  • Buildings north of Washington Street are on city power and should not be affected.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work toward our mutual goal of building a stronger and more resilient campus for the future.
